Oregon Politics Heating Up

Post by chasfm11 »

I've been trying to follow a series of standoffs between the Democratic Governor and some members of the minority Republicans in the Legislature. If I understood it correctly, the Republicans went AWOL and the Gov. was forced to withdraw some gun control measures to get them back in a previous episode
https://bearingarms.com/tom-k/2019/05/1 ... p-walkout/

This is at least Round#2 of the Republicans walking out, denying the Democrats the quorum that they need to pass their legislation. This one involves climate change

Here is the link to an article about it
https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/orego ... ingbuttons

But here is an imbedded video in the article from a Republican Oregon Senator

His quote says that if the Gov sends State Police to arrest him, they need to send bachelors and be heavily armed - he will not be a political prisoner.

I thought it was Oregon Green New Deal.

They need a quorum to vote.

They may have gone out of state to avoid armed men kidnapping them.

The potential for the leaders of government to use armed agents to enforce their political will is the very foundation for why we need the second amendment in the first place. This incident is a perfect argument against any form of gun control.

I actually used a similar line to the state Senator once. Someone threatened to have their cousin come to my house and "teach me a lesson". I told them to make sure they sent someone they didn't care about all that much...

I know Texas did. I THINK it was the dems, but can't be sure. Gone for a long time if I remember correctly. Back in the 90's I believe. Can someone enlighten me? :???:

Here is another link without a paywall. I'm hit or miss on the WSJ. sometimes it will let me read the article and sometimes not.

Do the people supporting the Oregon Republican walk-out also support the tactic being used by Democrats? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Eleven

The hypocrisy is epic.

Way back when the Democrats were the minority party in the Oregon Senate, Senate Democratic Leader Kate Brown supported a walkout by Democrat Senators, to block something they didn't like. Now that she's Governor, and the shoe is on the other foot...

I think I’ve heard there was this time the governor holed up in the governors mansion, but I never studied Texas history, so I could be all wrong.

I believe the Dems fled to Oklahoma in 2003 to avoid a vote.
