WildBill ,

Right you are.

I'm showing my crusty-ness as I've seen some twitter type messages that were in line with: I just brushed my teeth or some other crucial for the world to read message.

O.K., O.K., I gonna go drink a beer and watch "Live Free or Die" and laugh at faux hippies with white guys sporting dreads and laugh and laugh and laugh...yes at and not with them.

Dreads on white guys aren't pretentious are they?

And before someone might ask, yes, yes of course, I am holier than thou.

I kid, I kid, but I am perplexed by our new age hippies who want to live like it's 1850 or earlier with no running water and a disdain for modern amenities and medicine. And personal hygiene doesn't apparently take much priority either...

I don't get their attitude. If the people of bygone times were to witness our progress in modern technology and medicine and not care for it, I'd be astounded.

TexasTornado,

I was waiting for that to come up and yes, she's made rotten that old saying.

When she blurted out "what difference does it make" it was one of the few times her true self came oozing forth for all to see.

Just checked. It is still proper to space twice after a period. (<--- used two spaces after period but was auto miscorrected by program)
Just checked. It is still not proper to space only once after period. ;-)

I noticed that on some forums the second space is auto taken out, I guess this is to save on character spaces.

Remember, that those who are over 50 are starting to show some survival skills that those under 40 might still need to acquire.
Where did you find that it is proper? The MLA, Chicago Manual of Syle, and APA all say one. The only allowance for two is by the APA on manuscript drafts, but not in published works. The double space was started to correct for limitations of monotypeset typewriters. Soooo unless you're typing on a pre-electronic typewriter......

For the love of all that is good and holy in this world..... stop with the double spaces. :cryin

For heaven's sake, use the elipses correctly. It doesn't replace a comma and it is only 3 dots.

It was a joke. I don't care if or how you use e llipisses. I just thought the irony was funny considering what your comment was about. I thought the little laughing smiley face would make it clear I was joking. Ellipse away.

If you use an elipses at the end of a sentence do you use four dots? :headscratch

I didn't even know they had a name until an English teacher friend of mine called them that. I'm like, "oh! THAT'S what they are called!"

:nono: That could be considered racist. The "extra space" is technically called "white space".

According to when and where they are used, yes.

Here is an interesting quote from the link I posted.
Like the exclamation point, the ellipsis is at risk of overuse.
I'm guilty of overusing the exclamation point!!!!! So is, Elaine Benes from Seinfeld.

It's not a meme but I thought it fits.
