As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Philippine president-elect urges public to kill drug dealers

While I don't support vigilante justice, I can appreciate an administration that recognizes the citizens' right to protect themselves and their neighborhoods.

Our administration here in the US has a conniption fit if we even buy a gun, much less use one.

From the article:
The Philippine president-elect has encouraged the public to help him in his war against crime, urging citizens with guns to shoot and kill drug dealers who resist arrest and fight back in their neighborhoods.

In a nationally televised speech late Saturday, Rodrigo Duterte told a huge crowd in the southern city of Davao that Filipinos who help him battle crime will be rewarded.

"Please feel free to call us, the police, or do it yourself if you have the gun — you have my support," Duterte said, warning of an extensive illegal drug trade that involves even the country's police.

If a drug dealer resists arrest or refuses to be brought to a police station and threatens a citizen with a gun or a knife, "you can kill him," Duterte said. "Shoot him and I'll give you a medal."
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

While I can appreciate his tough-on-crime stance, if you look up his views on things, he's kind of out there.

I guess we'll see what he does once he actually takes office.

I don't think Trump is all that pro-gun ownership. Then again I would have guessed that the Philippines restricted gun ownership before I read the OP.

here's a little bit more. as many of you know, I'm a filipino and im hopeful that he will deliver and clean up the Philippines. it's been 7 years since we visited. Lately, tourism has suffered because of airport workers planting bullets in your luggage!

It appears there is an interesting phenomenon happening where straight talk, even if it is off the wall to some degree, is being valued more than smooth tactful political speak.

Let's hope it leads to good and that we aren't being played for fools.

It appears to be working. Mexico should give this a shot.

Well, there is a huge problem with drugs and gangs there, so I support the stance.

That sends a message, that's for sure.
