I purchased two boxes of 9mm at a Walmart in Plano on Saturday. As usual, I had to pay for it at the register in the sporting goods section. I also paid for all of my groceries there so I could skip the lines at the front. I was not escorted out, nor have I ever been. I was also OC'ing that day; I got some strange looks, but no one said anything to me.
Re: Strange new Walmart ammo policy attributed to Open Carry
Never had it happen before. I haven't bought ammo there since the first of the year, so I have no clue if the ones near me are doing it.

At the Academy's near me, some ammo is out in the open and some is behind the gun counter. Never seems to be any logic behind the distinction (handgun ammo calibers are in both places). None of them walk ammo, and they were all walking guns as of the last time I bought a gun there (6 months ago).VMI77 wrote:Academy does not walk ammo purchases. The ammo is out in the open. The local academy only keeps 22 ammo behind the gun counter. They may have had some 17 hmr there for awhile when it was being rationed.Soccerdad1995 wrote:At the Academy's near me, some ammo is out in the open and some is behind the gun counter. Went to my Walmart yesterday and was able to buy and walk out on my own accord.

I bought a firearm from Walmart about 20 years ago and they had the policy of walking you out the door then. Also of not selling ammo for that particular firearm at the time you picked it up or bought it off their rack.Abraham wrote:I've pretty much limited my ammo purchases to bulk online.
It's cheaper and less hassle.
I used to buy my ammo at Walmart and next time I go, I'll ask if they have a new policy of walking you out to the parking lot.
I do know they had that policy in effect when I bought my Colt AR's from them.

Bought a couple boxes of 45 ACP today at the Bellmead Wal-Mart - and I was open carrying my M&P45 - paid for it and clerk handed me my ammo in a bag

Academy does not walk ammo to the front. You can walk around the store all day long with boxes of bullets, even if you are open carrying. The Wall wrote:I know Academy walks the gun to the cashier when you by a gun. What a brainless policy that Walmart has... Think about it. If you were open or concealed, or even illegally carrying a firearm, you 999 out of 1000 already have bullets.

I but my ammo on-line. Good prices...free shipping...no sales tax.
As far as the NSA goes...if you've ever been on-line...ever sent an email...ever been on Facebook...posted on a forum...they can find you.
If it's on the internet it's forever.

Sounds like a good excuse to step outside and grab a quick cigarette, in the middle of the shift.

I bought ammo at wal mart yesterday and carried it out same as the other times. Nothing different.

I'm with you. Sell me some inexpensive ammo and they can give me a piggy-back ride to the car if they want to.

Re: Strange new Walmart ammo policy attributed to Open Carry
Sure, they can find me....but they won't know if I've purchased 50 rounds of whatever ammo or 50,000. At the moment that doesn't really matter but I don't know what the future will bring. For the sake of argument, lets say the left gets it's way, and bans AR15s. I don't expect house to house searches and confiscation, but maybe the decision is made to target a few high profile users to scare people into compliance. Just seems like someone they know purchased 10,000 rounds over the last few years might be more of a target than someone who might have a gun but may or may not have been shooting it.Countryside wrote:I but my ammo on-line. But I have no idea what this information may be used for. Maybe they just pass it to the insurance companies via Obamacare and and decide a guy who has purchased 10,000 rounds of ammo is more of a "health" risk than someone for whom there is no record of purchasing any...and hike your premiums. There was a law introduced in NY to limit ammo purchases to twice the amount your gun holds every 90 days. While that law is ridiculous and will never pass, many of the gun control utopias do have limits on how much you can purchase and how much you can possess. Maybe such a law gets passed and they decide to "inspect" a few bulk purchases to see it they're in compliance? Maybe you're just involved in an act of self-defense and the information is used to make you look nefarious in the media?
Or maybe you're a veteran...you know, one of those scary unstable people the MSM is always talking about, you're being treated by the VA, and been purchasing a lot of ammo lately. Might that information make its way to the VA and lead to you becoming one of those vets who gets his 2nd amendment rights pulled? Maybe when you retire the SSA will be interested and it will impact your SS benefits or 2nd amendment rights in some way. I don't know. Maybe none of that will happen. What I do know is that the less information the government has on you the less subject you are to that information being abused at some future date. They have more than I'd like them to have already...I'm not voluntarily giving them anything extra.
As far as the internet goes, in general....I only use my real name for business email. I don't post on any forum using my real name. Could the authorities find out who I am rather easily? Sure, if they wanted to...but it's an extra step. How well that information is linked in normal day to day surveillance, I don't know. If you're targeted they will get everything, but I don't imagine I'm targeted for anything. I don't use google. Never been on facebook and never will be. Don't use twitter. This is the only "social media" I have anything to do with. And btw, being a peace loving citizen will be irrelevant if you become targeted for your political beliefs at some future date.
