URGENT ACTION: CAMPUS-CARRY

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Please respond to this request immediately! We need everyone to call their Senator and politely request that they support SB1164 and oppose any and every amendment that is not acceptable to the author (Senator Wentworth)! I can't go into detail now, but it is very important that we get these calls going folks. And please use that terminology; i.e. "oppose any amendment not acceptable to the author."

If you don't know your Texas Senator, then go to this website and fill in your address: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Then, you can go to this webpage and click on your Senator for contact information: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Members/ ... ?Chamber=S" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks,
Chas.

I have called my Sen. Ogden's office, making the above request. Per the other thread, I also called Rep. Fred Brown again.

My Senator, Sen. Estes is a co-author on this bill, but I did call and make the request that he oppose any amendment that Sen. Wentworth did not agree with. :txflag:

Just called Senators Joan Huffman and Mike Jackson. Huffman's office said they would let Mrs. Huffman know I'm in support of the bill and currently did not know what her stance is. Jackson's office said they didn't know his stance either, but have been getting LOTS of calls about it. The expression in her voice seemed like it is an overwhelming number! Good job everyone, and it only took about 5 minutes. Let's finish strong! :clapping:

Called Senator Davis' office. She is not a co-sponser. Let her people know that I'd like her to support the bill and oppose any unacceptable amendmants to the author.

Done! But I personally suspect mine won't be a supporter of 1164...Any correspondence I have had from her on 2A issues have always been weak and waffling.

A very kind lady informed me that Senator Patrick is a co-author and she would be happy to pass my message along.

The call taker at Dan Patrick's office had to check her computer to see what the senator's opinion is. She then told me that the bill is stuck in committee and that I should consider making calls to committee members to get it pushed through.

Who else should we be calling, Charles?

My Senator is Chris Harris, who is a co-author. However, I just spoke with his office and reiterated my desire that he support the bill "without any amendments unacceptable to the author."

Did the same. Sen Corona. His office asst is printing out a note for him: please continue to
support SB1164 and reject any ammendments to this bill not specifically approved by Sen Wentworth.

The asst asked if I was _____ ____ that had called in Feb regarding SB1164 and had urged Sen Corona
to support the bill. Yes, I am. She was very courteous, sweet voiced and I thanked her for taking the time
to speak with me and pass my thoughts on to Sen Corona.
The point being: they do keep records with who is calling, when and about what. So, take a few minutes and
call your Sen or Rep whenever Rev Cotton requests.

I presently have two kids in college. It is a unnecessary hassle to disarm and rearm or risking theft when
required to leave my gun in the car whenever I visit. My oldest will be taking his CHL this summer. My daughter
has to wait 1 more year. I want THEM to be able to protect themselves if needed. Please make those calls.

I just called Sen Jackson, same as above, couldn't get his stance on this bill. The lady that answered said that Sen Jackson has his CHL and is pro gun, but did not know if he was for or against. I left a message for him asking for his vote as I am a CHL holder and college student (part time at night).

Senator Wentworth is my senator, so calling him to urge him to oppose any amemdment he is opposed to seemed superfluous -- but I did call and ask if there was anything I could do by writing or calling others. I was put thru to his aide who is handling the campus carry bill, and she verified for me it was still in the Senate Affairs committee -- sounded a bit exasperated/resigned about that -- but said she thinks they have the votes to get it passed if they can get it voted on. She said I could go ahead and call Sen Duncan's office, and I did, urging him to get it out on the floor for a vote.

Called Sen Nichols Office-his aides were very friendly, and said that they would pass along my request.
