I called Sen Hughes's (R) office (bill sponsor) and told them I was a life-long conservative Republican who supports law and order. However, I am not willing to sacrifice personal liberty at the altar of the "War on Drugs".

The fix is in with this bill. Promises made, horse-trading completed, old favors called in. They've greased the fast track chute.

Disgusting. So glad I am in Texas!

BTW, the NRA has signed off and is not opposing this bill.

There is already a Federal Law covering secret compartments, and the Feds use it as a basis for confiscating a vehicle.....I've heard it applied to boats and I'm not sure if it applies to cars and trucks. In any case though.....this law makes sense...because it would be terribly unfair for people to hide things in their cars, especially guns, where thieves can't find them. Have you no sense of social justice?

When was the last time anyone saw a dealership offering gun safes in cars? Would I need to have a dealer install my nanovault in my truck?

How do they plan on noticing the hidden compartments? Aren't they, you know, hidden?

Guess this bans gun safes in cars. How are you to secure your gun if you leave it in your vehicle?

The law exempts hidden compartments that are dealer-installed. Fortunately, I'm my own dealer (as far as they know), so I can install whatever I want... in Ohio... I think...

Oh, hey, if you bought you car used I wonder if you're liable for who the previous owner hired to do the installation?

Last year a big three (Dodge/Ram?) was advertising rifle storage in the sidewalls of the truck bed.

Of course you are, unless you can prove you didn't add it. They probably couldn't convict you in court, but then they don't bother with that anyway, they'll just confiscate the car. Since the lawyer fees to get it back probably average around $30,000, it's unlikely they'll have to give it back. It's the new "freedom." Hiding your OWN PROPERTY in your OWN PROPERTY is a crime.
