Which other states CHL to get?
Which other states CHL to get?
I want to get at least one other states' CHL with my Texas. Which ones are best, easiest to get, cheapest, etc? Sorry if this has been covered somewhere on here but I haven't found it.

Re: Which other states CHL to get?
Depends on why you want one. If you want one to overlap dates with your Texas' CHL so you won't have to worry about renewals taking too long, get Utah. Recent Texas processing times seem to reflect this is not currently a problem.
The other reason is to obtain additional states. Again, with Texas' reciprocity agreements, this is not the issue it was a few years ago. If this is your motivation, pick the states you need and choose accordingly.

Be aware that some states do not honor non-resident permits.

Re: Which other states CHL to get?
Yeah Utah looks like a good one if it's relatively cheap and easy to get. Last year when I took my CHL class I think I remember Charles talking up Pennsylvania for some reason but I can't remember why. Thanks for the info
Re: Which other states CHL to get?
Pennsylvania is good to get because it gives you West Virginia, is very cheap ($26), is totally reciprocal with Texas, no class, and takes only a few days to get. It is especially good to have around the time of your Texas renewal if you delay your renewal and your Texas license becomes invalid briefly for being out of date. Utah is better (gives you more states) but it costs more and you have to take a class for it.

There are a number of instructors in Texas. You can find one near you on the Utah site at http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/concea ... ctors.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you're anywhere near DFW, I highly recommend http://www.crossfire-training.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm south of Houston. I see Charles Cotton is on the list. He was my CHL instructor, I'll contact him. Thanks for the link.

if you get a positive answer on giving a Utah CHL Class, please see if he will schedule one for multiple people and if you or he would post something on this forum about it.driver8 wrote:I'm south of Houston. I see Charles Cotton is on the list. He was my CHL instructor, I'll contact him
I sent him a PM, but received no answer on that same request.

Same here. I can put together at least 5 (if not more) people for a Utah class myself.Teamless wrote: if you get a positive answer on giving a Utah CHL Class, please see if he will schedule one for multiple people and if you or he would post something on this forum about it.

Re: Which other states CHL to get?
I was looking around and found that PA has changed a bit and the info above now seems a bit dated. Here is some updated info.
http://centrecountypa.gov/index.aspx?NID=405" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
License to Carry Firearms
Licenses to carry firearms applications via mail has been discontinued as of March 31, 2011.
As the result of requirements of Act 66, 2005, applicants must have their photo and signature captured electronically into our system. At this time there is no manner to complete these requirements without the personal appearance of the applicant.
Therefore we will not be able to process any mailed applications received after March 31, 2011.

Re: Which other states CHL to get?
If you're applying in 2013, I think Utah is best if you also have a Texas CHL. Virginia and Florida are best if you don't.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Re: Which other states CHL to get?
If you want to add states... And I don't know the difficulty of any of these, but was curious...
Connecticut adds Connecticut.
Florida adds Ohio.
Idaho adds Ohio.
Maine adds Maine.
Maryland adds Maryland.
Massachusetts adds Massachusetts.
Nevada adds Nevada.
New Hampshire adds New Hampshire. I had a New Hampshire non-resident license and it was easy to get, but didn't renew it.
New Jersey adds New Jersey.
New York adds New York.
North Dakota adds Ohio and Washington.
Oregon adds Oregon.
Rhode Island adds Nevada and Rhode Island.
South Carolina adds Nevada and Ohio.
Utah adds Ohio and Washington.
Virginia adds Ohio.
Washington adds Ohio and Washington.
If you want to collect the whole set, get Rhode Island, North Dakota or Washington, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Oregon to get Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington.

New Hampshire adds New Hampshire. I had a New Hampshire non-resident license and it was easy to get, but didn't renew it. --> no need, NH already honors TX CHL
New York adds New York. --> to get a license, you must be a resident or employed in NY, or own a business in NY
North Dakota adds Ohio and Washington. --> training, testing, and application must take place within ND
Oregon adds Oregon. --> will only issue non-resident to residents of WA, CA, ID, NV (borders OR)
Rhode Island adds Nevada and Rhode Island. --> must own a residence or business in RI.
South Carolina adds Nevada and Ohio. --> does not offer non-resident licenses.
Utah adds Ohio and Washington. This is one of my licenses.
Washington adds Ohio and Washington. --> application must be done in person, not by mail.
