Questions about Louisiana

#1

Post by Windknot_Flies »

I'm still waiting for my CHL, but I'm going to be traveling to New Orleans this week. Now, I'm familiar with the laws concerning travelers carrying handguns in their vehicles within Texas, but I'm not sure about Louisiana. I've been going through older posts on this site, but I can't find any discussion about "non CHL licensed persons" traveling with handguns in Louisiana. If anyone has any insight on this subject or advice I'd appreciate it. BTW, the wife and I will be staying in a hotel for the visit and will most likely have our handguns locked in the hotel safe during our stay. Oh, I've also looked at the "handgunlaw.us" site as well, but I'm having a little difficulty making sense out of the laws in LA.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

http://www.lsp.org/handguns.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; from Louisiana State Police site. (See several links there for duties/prohibited places etc etc etc.
looks like churches are criminal safe zones there.
http://www.lsp.org/handguns.html#prohibited" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

ALSO here's the
NEW law and rule booklet http://www.lsp.org/pdf/chRuleBook08.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (does NOT include prohibited places etc from other links)

Haven't found any specific sign requirement like our 30.06 .... so maybe any old sign works to prohibit .... dunno

yw ... also check the FAQs link ...

. I understand that LRS 40:1379.3 as amended in the 2010 Regular Legislative Session may now allow me to carry a concealed handgun in a church, synagogue or mosque. Are there any additional steps that I need to take to carry a concealed handgun in a these places?

A. It is within the discretion of the church, synagogue, or mosque to authorize the carrying of a concealed handgun in such place. If the place of worship chooses to authorize the carrying of concealed handguns in its facility, the place of worship shall require the person wishing to carry a concealed handgun on its premises to complete an additional eight hours of tactical training, on an annual basis. You should contact the authority of the place of worship to determine if they allow the carrying of concealed handguns in the facility and what tactical training they require for approval for a permittee to do so.

:lol: Will do. Looks like we're hitting Lafayette first. Sergeant Major wifey wants to stop there first. Not sure what's there. My only experience with LA is Fort Polk....and it wasn't all that great. =)

just now noticed your avatar ... I'm in the "Plastic Navy" too ... Inks Lake and Lake Austin are being lowered 8-12 feet for the next 3 weeks, (starting today; takes 4 days to lower them) ... fish concentrations under the dams releasing water should start soon and on those lakes too.

Currently "yellow" Hobie Outback, formerly beige Prowler 13 clone (had a Redfish 14 hull+Prowler 13 deck; neighbor bought it from me)
Obsessive rigging photos here http://s342.photobucket.com/albums/o433 ... 1QQtppZZ16" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So I stay on LOUSIANA topic (KINDA ...

Photo of me near Lake Charles, LOUSIANA years ago when I looked younger with my 1ST PLACE tourney winning redfish actually caught at the dike in a powerboat though that day. (about 12 lb. test line, light tackle (almost ultralight), 2 hour fight) Arms were so tired, barely lifted it with both arms.

:clapping: Holy crap, nice red. Yep, I'm an LPB (little plastic boat) pilot myself. I guide trips here in the Corpus area. Haven't done any fishing in LA, but I've always heard the reds are bigger there. I've got a garage full of yaks, but I do have one rigged out for fishing. I was sponsered by Liquid Logic Kayaks & Accent Paddles for a while (which means I got a couple of FREE fishing kayaks and paddles to boot). Anyways, thanks for the links. We're going to take our HGs with us for the trip, but will lock them up when we get to our destination. I keep hoping my license will get here this week. A couple of guys on the forum got theirs in under 16 days here recently. Heck, I used to have a Top Secret clearance and I'm already licensed with the USCG...shouldn't be any skeletons in my closet or else they'd be our there already. If you're ever on Facebook I've got plenty of kayak fishing pics (Harris-Denise Ashley) :patriot:

(forgot the weight, but it was my personal best of all species to date, and the biggest red that day, though photo shows ice chest curvature making it look shorter)

I may have to pay for a guide trip if I get time to get down there next Summer ... do you accept "plastic"? specifically Keltec PF9 in trade? "rlol"

Kidding ,,, have a safe trip. ;-)
