Traveling to Las vegas with firearm?

Post by -adrian- »

Good day,
We are traveling to Las vegas for the holidays. I know our LTC is honored in NM and AZ, But not in Las vegas. Can I still keep it in the car while I travel in Nevada?

the entire state of Nevada, not just Las Vegas, does not recognize the Texas permit: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/texas.pdf

Standard Disclaimer ... I am not a lawyer and I am not advising you to do this but here is what I did...

If you have enough time 60-90 days contact Arizona DPS and ask for the Arizona Non Resident CCW app. They will mail you the app and you need to get two fingerprint cards filled out. Fill out the app and send everything back to them with 60 bucks and in about 60 days you will have your permit. Then you are good to go in Nevada as they recognize the AZ permit.

I carried there for a week however no one ever knew so its not like I verified this info with the LVPD :rules:

A lot of the reason why I got an AZ non-resident CHL was because my in-laws have a cabin in Brian Head and we go up there and to Zion about every year, so we fly through Vegas. The don't take Texas' CHL (Only because of the whole under 21 for the military thing), so I got AZ to carry in NV while we are driving through there.

Nevada is a Constitutional Open Carry State, so if your CHL is not taken there, you can Open Carry. Good luck walking into a casino that way. It would work for me, because I am only passing through when I am there.

The shooting test is like 36 rounds, you shoot with your right hand, your left hand and both hands. Really easy. You then go to the county Id place for your license. that was the best part of the vacation. you sit and wait with all the other chl people and the ladies coming in for their escort id.
I may be mistaken, but isn't the Nevada CHL gun specific? Meaning that you need a separate permit for each gun?

Not anymore. I recently looked into this for my own trip to Vegas. They recently got state premption, so the requirement for a specific gun and the requirement to register a handgun in the city are history.

For me, Arizona is still the best bet for carry in Nevada, because i don't have to apply in person.

If by "in the car" you mean in accordance with FOPA86, yes.
