If the gas tube on a AR measures 7.5" from the gas block to the upper reciever does this make it a carbine length?

Thanks Ikd. :tiphat:
With that information I just added another AR to my build list. There goes another $700-$1000!

What an excuse to build an AR! I have not heard (tried) that one yet. I can think of " I need a new AR to match my buttstock", "look at my new scope, I plan to use it on an AR to build", "look at that free float handguard I just purchased, I'm going out right now and get a bare lower reciever and start", but the gas tube length reason beats them all! Go for it.

After my first build I was doing some more research on various types and lengths and read that the mid-length gas systems are this and that. Since I built a carbine I now need to build a mid-length. Now I just need to figure out how to convince my wife as to why I need/want one. Then I'll have to figure out how to convince her I need/want a rifle length, SBR, AK & .308. So many options and so little funds.

It's kinda like a piston, but it doesn't break.

I use that logic all the time. I once bought my brother a scope and realized I ordered the wrong one. Did I return the wrong one???? NOPE! So naturally I had a scope in my safe that needed a rifle. And thats the story of how I got my 10/22. Then there's the time I bought a boat load of AK gear without actually owning an AK....
