I went to bass pro and they actually had a sig 716 so they guy mounted a few of the eo techs for me.
Those big scopes are for long range stuff right?
im thinking at this point to just shoot it with the iron sights until I decide.
Get whatever good glass that will fit your purpose. I'd go with something stronger than a 1x but still adjustable and then mount a DR at the 45.
Now just because I asked about optics that makes me new to guns?anyway lets stay on topic. I know you dont have to spend 1000 dollars to get a good scope.I am new to AR's and only a little experience with scopes.

Re: AR scope
I'd say Burris 1.5-6. You can find them use for a good price. Then put set if irons on 45 degree mount if 1.5x bothers you too much

Re: AR scope
Find a Bushnell 3-9 (not the super cheap trophy though) or a 1-4 with some cheap UTG quick release mounts for your low light hunting and longer range work as they hold zero just fine. Then just pop it on or off when you want too.... There are some combo red dot with maginfication like pointed out here...budget and wife approval is the only limit.
For $885 mount included the trijicon 3x9 with mount might be a rock solid all around ; http://www.laruetactical.com/trijicon-a ... 04-1-mount" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or the Burris http://www.laruetactical.com/burris-xtr ... ical-mount" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in 1x4 Both are illuminated.
for $600 ish http://www.laruetactical.com/aimpoint-c ... ical-mount" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; For Home defense or work out to 200 yards (for my aging eyes anyway) the Aimpoint with Larue QR mounts will sit with the scope on for 5 years.....something the Eotechs don't do or they have the Patrol version for $200 less....ymmv Do you use night vision much?
Spend a little more and they have the Aimpoint T1... all can co-witness with your iron sights for a best of both worlds. If the battery were to fail the big ring of the sight works like a ghost ring in the short indoor defense ranges of a hallway.
The Eotech does have the ring and dot which for some might be great. I had LASIK and the outer ring is a little dazzeling to me (like looking into the scanner at the store) when I try to make precision shots but would be great for fast shots on running hogs tec. Batteries are common but only last 500-600 hrs.
They best solution might be to get TWO ARs and then scope one with some good glass and the other set up for HD....but then you migh want a light weight one and a heavy barrel version...... Yeah 4 Ars should do....unless you have a two story home where you might want several on each floor
For what it is worth, I personally have one set up in the carbine form with light, and aimpoint for HD and daytime/nightime hogs on the run. I have a 20 inch bull bbl with a 6-18 mounted low on ARMs QD rings with no sights as a target, longer range precision hunter. The 6-18 is really too big for 99% of my hunting needs and I was about to get a 1-4x30mm to use for anything but punching paper for groups but then the country went nuts and supplies ran low.

Re: AR scope
yea well im not buying another sig 716. i got mine for a steal and i dought i will find another for that price again. most places are selling them in the 2100 - 2300 range. i paid 1600 plus tax. maybe one day ill buy a 5.56. But this was my last major gun purchase before i drop some serious money on a new car.
my coworker thinks i should get the eotech with the magnafier but that 1000 dollars.highly over priced in my opinion.

Primary Arms new 1x-6x with the ACSS Reticle will be shipping in September. They make a great scope for the money.

IF you want an Eotech and magnifier, they offer a deal on all their Eotechs where they come with a Primary Arms branded magnifier and mount. Their magnifier is excellent. I cannot tell the difference between it and the Eotech as far as clarity.

An AR will shoot well out to 100 yds with iron sights. The Marine Corps standard rifle quals start at 200 yds. Sight it in and it will shoot better than you can.alvins wrote:Accually i was thinking about just using the iron sights and see what happens.

Re: AR scope
I bought a Burris MTAC 1-6 power for my 716 and it works great. I can shoot up close and was still able to get .75 MOA out of it. I also tried it at 300 yards just to see how it would do, at 6 power it does not zoom in enough to get small groups but I can easily hit a 12" target (and that is all I want to do).

Re: AR scope
took it out to the range saturday. it shoots about 2 inches low with the iron sights.I was shooting at 25 yards. Im thinking I want a 1-4x scope instead of a holographic sight.
Its pretty loud with my aac breakout until I attached my supressor.

Re: AR scope
I picked up a used Trijicon ACOG TA01 for around $600 and LOVE it. Perfect for hunting, defense, and everything in between. I'm very proficient at 25-400 yards with the clear 4x magnification. Just throwing my .02 in to make you second guess yourself.

Re: AR scope
At 25 yards, It should shoot a bit low. BTW, are you aware you can raise & lower the front sight post? There are several methods of getting your irons dialed-in.alvins wrote:took it out to the range saturday. it shoots about 2 inches low with the iron sights.I was shooting at 25 yards.
That depends entirely on the intended purpose of your rifle. If you only see it as a range rifle (nothing wrong with that) then yes, you can spend far less to purchase an adequate scope. However, if you want an "end of the world" functional rifle, your cheaper scope will likely die with the first or second really hard knock. Trijicon scopes have repeatedly passed the acid test with our troops in combat.alvins wrote:im not saying trijicon is junk but i do think you can get a better value with other optics.i think trijicon is VERY overpriced.
NOTE: I realize Trijicon is not the only brand that has served well in combat. There are several others that have been to heck & back too. I do not mean to slight any of them... just making a point that you get what you pay for.

Re: AR scope
I bought a Mueller Speed Shot 1-4X with an illuminated red dot reticle. It has 11 power settings and so far I find 6 to be just right.
I absolutely love it.
Scope and mount came to a total of $239.00 not counting tax and freight.
I shot with it mounted over a hundred times and it holds it's zero just fine.
My neighbor bought a super pricey non-magnifed Eotech and after shooting my rifle is going to buy the same scope I have.
