Pistol Gripped Shotgun Hunting

Can you hunt fowl in Texas with a pistol gripped shotgun? I'm not talking about a Cruiser type shotgun, I'm asking about hunting with a t6 stock and pistol grip with the appropriate plug.

I noticed a Tri-Star semi auto shotgun with a normal looking butt stock+pistol grip and it really caught my eye. I'm kinda new to shotgun hunting scene.

For migratory game birds, the definition of a legal shotgun is: "Shotguns not larger than 10 gauge, fired from the shoulder, and incapable of holding
more than three shells..."

As pointed out - migratory... but you still run the risk of getting a closer inspection by a GW if hunting non-migratory. Maybe a citation and let the courts decide. For me personally - I wouldn't let you hunt with me cuz of my concern with wounding shooting with such a gun (lead, angle, and such). Jes my 2 cents...

And what would he be given a citation for? So long as the gun is plugged there is nothing illegal about using it.

It wouldn't even need to be plugged unless hunting migratory game birds:

I'm still shooting from the shoulder, there is just a pistol grip along with the adjustable length of pull. The only other aspect MIGHT be the balance, giving the Shorty a nose heavy attitude, but that would be my problem.

I apologize - I didn't closely read your OP - I thought you were asking about a pistol gripped (only) shotgun fired low or outstretched and thought you were going hunting with it. I wasn't sure you would be able to get past the GW with that. My mistake - I read too fast.

My last sentence was simply one of my personal concern with shooting such a gun in taking game. I would want to see how good you are on a skeet or five stand field with a pistol gripped (only) shotgun (using angles and leads) before I would hunt with someone using that kind of gun in the field. Simple reason would be that I really hate wounding and I believe (IMO) that shooting with a pistol grip shotgun at the field distances needed - chances go up.

It would look kinda odd, but you could. I certainly wouldn't take it to the Governor's Annual Hunt or anything

So, were you to be a participant in the "Governor's Annual Hunt" what would be your fowler of choice?

Do it all the time. My black shotgun is pistol griped, has a mag extension past the end of the barrel which is equipped with a Cutt's compensator. Drives the GW's nuts but it has never caused me to receive a citation. I use a proper length garden hose to plug the magazine.. Why you ask? Because I was pretty good with it back in my 3 Gun Days.
