New Ruger 10/22

I've been wanting to add a .22LR rifle to the stable for plinking, and today found a Ruger 10/22 at Acadamy Sports for $189. I just couldn't resist. Shot it today, and enjoyed it immensely. Next I'll add a spare scope I have lying around so I can actualyy see where the shots are hitting. Definitely loving this small purchase.

I agree that .22s and 10/22s in particular are incredibly fun to shoot --comparatively cheap, too. I am glad you picked it up and joined the fraternity. Too many folks get caught up in the big bore recoil and noise and don't appreciate these little gems.

Presently, we only have two .22 rifles and thre .22 pistols. When I mentioned to my wife that I would like at least one more rifle (either pump or lever) and also a revolver, she kinda looked at me funny. She has a soft spot for revolvers and lever guns though...

Congrat's! I picked up the Mossberg Tactical .22 last year and when I took it to the range I had a blast!!! I only spent $15 on 550 rounds of ammo but that was enough for two and a half hours of plinking. It was the best time I had in a while!

Had one of those as a kid they are great. Sold it to fund a 10/22 which I regret tremendously. I like the ruger but I wish I could get that browning back...

I have always had a soft spot for those Brownings as well. They are a classic with great aesthetics (until you put a scope on them).

I have another classic .22 on the way this week. It is a Marlin model 39 Century Limited lever action. Made in 1970, I think.

Excellent choice! I purchased a NIB for $49.00, if my memory serves me right. Have enjoyed shooting it for many years except for an interruption of a few years when it was stolen out of my pickup in Farmers Branch. FBPD called one day and asked if I was the owner and related the story of a Game Warden arresting an illegal for shooting something illegally with said rifle. I was thrilled to get it back. Never saw the single barreled shotgun, that was stolen at the same time, again.

What I liked about them besides the obvious quality and feel, is that they are all steel, no aluminum receiver like the Ruger and Marlin I have. I don't know how much that matters, when I buy a gun I always think about it being around for my grandkids or great grandkids.

I have both of these at my house, neither one are mine. They are not Brownings but Remington 241s. made on Brownings patent. The top one belongs to a friend who bought it from his grandfather for a nickel when he was a kid (about 50 years ago). From the info I can find on the internet it was made in 1923. The bottom one was my father in laws, it shows to be from 1935. I shot both of them Saturday and they're fine.

I also like the QD barrel (if I remember correctly). Those things were really something.

The 10/22's are great rifles, have 2 at the house and set them up for Appleseed. the 1 mod that I would highly recommend is an extended mag release which is simple to install. For a scope we have found that the BSA Sweet 22 is perfect..........

If you don't have your heart set on a scope, you might check out Tech Sights. I love them. Huge improvement over the factory sights.
