Re: Maverick 88 (Mossberg)
Their pricing is an inscrutable internal matter. I only mention in passing chokes.
If you cut the barrel, can you thread it?

Re: Maverick 88 (Mossberg)
I wasn't thinking about interchangeable chokes for defensive use but that's an interesting idea...

Cylinder barrels can be effective. You have to do your homework and make your decisions: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot3_2.htm

Check out Sports Authority. They carry the HD version and run it on sale too. I think I got mine for around $150.00. Nice little HD shot gun.

Re: Maverick 88 (Mossberg)
You'll find the Maverick 88 is a "nice" HD shotgun. I have one... slightly decked out.
It has served me well over the years. But once in a while I like to spray "mass quantities lead". That's where my M1 Super 90 comes in. It will spray 9 rounds quicker than my Maverick 88 can cycle a second shot.
Gotta love those Mavericks though...

Only when the best will suffice.
