Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
So there were a few strings that came with the free ammo.
Just an FYI, I found this site a couple of weeks ago while I was browsing for .308 ammo: http://gun-deals.com/.
It's a free, contributor-based database of recent pricing on various gun-related stuff, including ammo. The more participation the better, though all but a couple of the best prices I'd found on .308 and .223 were already on file. I registered with them and whenever I'm on an ammo hunt, I'll compare against their data and provide updates when warranted. Overall, I think it's a pretty nifty idea.

Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
Well, LCplMustafa took ownership of his new POF .308 Saturday. I got to take a look at it Sunday.
My October delivery date is looking far, far away.

Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
I doubt it. No update yet, and I promised myself I wouldn't start getting antsy until at least mid-October. But I've held off buying any more ammo or the EO-Tech magnifier until I have the rifle in hand.longhorn_92 wrote:Time is almost here for your delivery.....any chance it may come early???
I'm being very patient.

What .308 ammo do you recommend for target shooting up to 300 yards??

Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
FYI, still no new news on the POF .308 order. We're now at six months.
I really really want this rifle. I sincerely hope the bottoming economic situation doesn't impact high-end firearm manufacturers like Patriot Ordnance.

Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
on the S.A. PMP stuff...Availability and cost, in my opinion rates extremely well...
My AR eats the stuff regularly and I have had "zero" problems with it...
I would summize the .308 will work as reliably as it's smaller cousin...

Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
I came across what appears to be a good deal on recently manufactured Lithuanian .308 ammo on Wideners.com - 200 rounds for $99. Shipping cost on 400 rounds was around $15.

Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
Yeeouch.
I finally broke down and telephoned POF about my order. Very nice folks; answered the phone on the first ring, and didn't seem off-put about my asking for a status...even before they found out it was one of the older ones.
So tell me if these rifles are in demand (and LCplMustafa, if you're still on the board, I should have been willing to pay premium and gone the route you did; my mistake):
My order is 196 days old (but who's counting), and there are still a bit over 100 orders in front of me. Best estimate is that I'll see the rifle no sooner than two to three months.
And I thought waiting on my CHL was tough.
But at least I know it's still in the works, so I won't run out and spend the money I budgeted for it on something else.
If the demand has been so high that they're building February/March orders now, I wonder what the post-election demand looks like.
It is still the firearm I most want, so I'll just try to forget all about it until spring...

Re: .308 Semi-Auto Rifles
I'm admittedly biased but, I just don't think there's a better all-round .308 than the FN-FAL or it's modern clone, the DSA SA58. I currently own a very nice M1A and I've owned several before it. I have also owned an HK91 and an Armalite AR10. Through it all, the FAL was just the right mix of everything I wanted.
I've put 10,000+ rounds through my current copy. It has functioned with monotonous regularity for seven years. Even after cooking the barrel a couple times, it's still quite capable of lethal accuracy out to 500 yards with little more than iron sights. When it finally is forced into retirement, I'm not looking for anything other than another FAL to replace it.
