Y'all can go to..... I am going to TX
Well this is interesting. I live in VA a very pro second amendment state. However quite a few of my gun toting friends (and myself to a certain extent) are considering fall back positions...literally. We live too close to DC for our comfort (3 hours away). A good portion of us are considering TX as a relocation place to get away from the Feds if they go crazier than they already are.
I think the idea is that if the idea of liberty exists anywhere in this country it is TX. So those who love freedom have a better chance against tyranny if they all stand together.
Mostly I think this is all talk, but if Holder tries to run for president or if our dear leader looks like he may decide he likes his chair and won't give it up, a bunch of people are headed y'all's way to make a last stand. I know I told my DH that if holder looks like he might run to look for jobs in TX cause we are way to close for comfort. Anyway

Awesome. Please move to Austin so we can dilute the voting power of the CA liberals that keep moving there!

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I think you have mostly home grown loonies in Austin. I've not met any that could hold a candle to one of the California native raving loons. The libs in Austin are probably centrists out here.OldCannon wrote:Awesome. Please move to Austin so we can dilute the voting power of the CA liberals that keep moving there!
I stopped in a coffee place in Del Mar this morning on Dawn Patrol. I was sitting there sipping my coffee and eating my gruel when the discussion at the next table, a group of folks all roughly my age (iow older), all friends, but unknown to me. The discussion turned to rainwater harvesting. I've been designing a home that features rainwater harvesting, a Zero Energy home, actually, and made bold to join the conversation. The rainwater harvesting system we came up with is 40,000 gallons, collected from rain falling on the roof, piped down, filtered, into the holding tank, then piped back into the house as needed.
One woman listened to this and said, "well, assuming it is your water...", as though even the rain belongs to the collective!
Yikes!
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

well in texas at least the water on your land belongs to you, the last session of the legislature decided that any and all water rights with exception to auqafirs as listed in the law belong to the property owner and muds and other entities could no longer say they own the water so that you could drill wells, harvest water and control the flow on your property.

I lived in California for many years. During one prolonged drought, the state mandated certain conservation pratices. Most of the citizens complied "too much" and cut back their water consumption so much that the water companies raised their rates because they weren't making enough money.

What I was surprised at with this Summer's trip to the left coast was how many conservative types I ran into in the San Diego area. Yeah, your usual mixed bag of fruits and nuts in LA and environs, but San Diego people were a lot more conservative than I would have expected.JALLEN wrote:I think you have mostly home grown loonies in Austin. Not to discourage you, because I'm sticking it out here, and will welcome anyone that will be a counter to all the immigrating liberals.....but Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana may also be pretty good choices. The only problem I see here is that there are several very large metropolitan areas that are hard to get away from....far away from anyway. If I had my choice of locations I'd pick somewhere out in West Texas.

I have family there in TX and no one in those other states. Additionally the growing season in those places is significantly shorter than TX
