Hooters doesn't give a Hoot about your CHL

Dear Mr. Sullivan:
We at the Hooters Hotline received your comment. Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
In areas where concealed weapons are allowed, we do post a sign that says ‘firearms and other weapons are not permitted on the premises.’ Thankfully, it is a choice we have the freedom to make. We respect those customers who decide not to patronize our business because of this decision.
We do hope that this information is helpful. However, if you would like more information about us, please visit us on the Web at

Thanks so much for writing, Mr. Sullivan. We appreciate your interest and look forward to seeing you in one of our neighborhood restaurants soon.
Sincerely,
Robert
Hooters Hotline...We give a Hoot!
P.S. Please retain the ticket number located below. This will help us locate your information should you need us again.

Comments: Dear sirs,
I read on Texas CHL forums that one of the members that holds a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) was asked to leave your Hooters restaurant.
CHL holders have been background checked, trained, and licensed to carry a firearm. As you may remember there were no such individuals in Luby’s restaurant when its patrons were massacred (24 of them). It is a constitutional right and a safer way to do business to welcome CHL holders as many crimes have indeed been stopped by those willing to do so.
Is this your company policy? The restaurant was in Addison TX. If this is your policy I intend to post this on Facebook and everywhere else I can. We law abiding citizens are getting tired of liberal businesses attempting to circumvent the constitution and make our country a more dangerous place. Any fool knows criminals do not abide by laws.

I would leave it at that. They have the right to prohibit CHL's from carrying in their establishment if they want. They also have the right to be ignorant of the law and post a sign that is meaning less to someone with a CHL. Remember, however, that it is also our right to let them remain ignorant and or take our business elsewhere.
Personally, I've tried their hotwings and a couple other things and find nothing special about them. There is far better food to found in the frozen food section at your local grocery store and other places.

Although they did not indicate that they were ignorant of the law
They may full well be aware that a valid 30.06 sign would be needed, and that theirs is a "feel good" for Liberals or employees who ARE ignorant sign only

They say they didn't post a 30.06 sign, (saying "we are free to post what we want") and quote the non-30.06 language to you ...and THEN, knowing you (probably) won't go in unarmed (that's why you wrote, to protest that policy) they say ...hope to see you soon ... indicating you are welcome to come in armed with your license since their sign, which they chose the verbiage on, does not affect you.
To me that says, "We posted a feel good sign, it may invite armed criminals, but we are free to post any sign, we know you can still legally carry, we could have posted a 30.06, (we are free to post what we want) but posted a non-30.06 feel good sign (which has no legal affect on you), ...please come patronize our location.
I would leave it at that.
Let sleeping dogs sleep ... unless you are wanting to pester them into posting a valid enforceable 30.06 sign.

I am interest in this portion of the OP, " a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) was asked to leave your Hooters restaurant." How did they know the person had a concealed weapon?

I think RPB has it right. You need to read between the lines.
If that person was asked to leave because he was carrying, I bet there was more to the story.

It's lawyer bait to put something in writing that could come back and bite. I dont like Hooters & not trying to defend them, but I'm pretty sure they know what their doing, and if they dont post a 30.06 I dont have a beef with them.

It's been a while since I've eaten at Hooters, but IIRC, they served a great grilled fish sandwich that would be worth walking past a non-compliant sign for if I was in the right mood.
YMMV

Why, why, WHY do CHL holders persist in trying to inform the ignorant that their signs are not compliant?

Because they think telling them the sign is non compliant will get it removed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it gets the sign replaced with a compliant 30.06 sign. Leave sleeping dogs lie.

TAM, Some people are more interested in being "right" and showing it than just moving on and doing what is really right and practical.

I believe the question was rhetorical.

It is said, among other things, that, "...a little learnin' can be a dangerous thing...". I'm forever amazed at the number of folk who take a 8-10 hour Texas CHL class and apparently think that course qualifies them to be lawyers and judges, etc.

I know. However, I wanted to get my point across. Thanks for pointing that out though.
