My parent's house is most likely gone

#1

Post by v-rog »

My parents live in the Texas hill country just Southeast of Bastrop (just off of HWY 71, Hidden Bluff). They were evacuated on Sunday and one of their neighbors reported loud explosions. It was most likely their large propane tank for the gas stove and the hot water heater. They only had enough time to gather up pictures and blankets before they were evacuated. The whole area has burned and HWY 71(between Smithville and Bastrop) is closed. They are currently in a hotel in Austin.

I'm so sorry, I have lots of friends and family that live all over the Central Texas area. I'm praying for all affected by the fires and those fighting them.

The Bastrop/Smithville area is the "extended backyard" of where I grew up. It is very sad to see what's happening. I was almost surprised that the fire jumped the Colorado, until I realized that there's very little water for a fire to jump. We're covered with the haze and smoke from that fire today, and the smell is in the air and the fires are well over 60 miles away.

Prayers ascend for my family and friends - and everyone else - in the area.

We're still waiting for word, but it's almost 100% certain that my uncle's home was destroyed out in Bastrop as well. He, his wife, and his dogs got out ok though.

Glad they are safe. In the end, everything else is replaceable. So sorry they have to experience that though.

I just learned that two people I know lost their homes in this fire so far. If it keeps up, I'll likely know even more victims.
