Re: One song that "speaks" to you
For some reason I was thinking of this song last night
Edited to add - Dang he looks young in this video. I guess I was young in 1984 too.

Johnny Bush - This Time You Gave Me a Mountain.
I also like Just Breath.
Annoyed Man, when I lived in San Antonio in the mid 80s, there was a guy practiced bag pipes down the road in a partially built shopping center late at night. I could stand on my balcony and hear him playing Amazing Grace at just the right volume. Beautiful.

Great song! Thanks for the post. I didn't know, but Marty Robbins wrote this song.OlBill wrote:Johnny Bush - This Time You Gave Me a Mountain.

I like a lot of songs from Engelbert Humperdink. My favorite singer. Reminds me of my first year of marriage. We went to see his concert at the downtown Jones Hall.

I did a little research to find out more about Engelbert. I never realized that he was English [born in India]. I guess because I only heard him singing rather than talking.Take Down Sicko wrote:I like a lot of songs from Engelbert Humperdink. My favorite singer. Reminds me of my first year of marriage. There are a few good videos and interviews with him online. There is one with Jerry Lewis that is really funny!
At 80 years old, he is still performing.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
There have been posts going around with a song called "One Pair of Hands" .
The song has been described as a "lost" Elvis Presley song, but it is actually sung by Carroll Roberson.
Check it out. It's pretty good.
I ran across another version sung by Glen Campbell that is also very good.
I wouldn't have guessed that it was him singing it.

"Leader of the Band' by Dan Fogelberg. It always makes me think about my father.

What a powerful song for believers who have lost loved ones who are also believers.
Chas.

"For Those Who Wait"
This is for those who wait
Another day, another waiting game
A little different but it's still the same
I am here, but where's the one I'm longing for?
I'm having trouble feeling all alone
Will my heart ever find a home?
I want to hope but sometimes I just don't know
I know I'm not the only one
[Chorus:]
So we sing a lullaby to the lonely hearts tonight
Let it set your heart on fire, let it set you free
When you're fighting to believe
In a love that you can't see
Just know there is a purpose
For those who wait
I want to open up my eyes
I know that all I need is time
I'm growing stronger every single day
God, I'm going to lean into You now
Letting go of all my fear and doubt
I can't do this on my own so I'll give You control
I know I'm not the only one
[Chorus]
The pressure makes us stronger
The struggle makes us hunger
The hard lessons make the difference
The pressure makes us stronger
The struggle makes us hunger
The hard lessons make the difference
And the difference makes it worth it
So we sing a lullaby to the lonely hearts tonight
Let it set your heart on fire, let it set you free
When you're fighting to believe
In a love that you can't see
Just know there is a purpose
For those who wait...
(Set your heart on fire...)
This is for those who wait...
A man will fight harder for his interests than for his rights.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
This song is long and slow, but good. It reminds me of my grandpa who would have been the same age. Also it makes me sad to think of the dying breed of old-timers and the greatest generation which is quickly disappearing.
