Re: Potty Mouth
Found this viewpoint from a law professor (probably should know something)
"Originally, he was just going to... 'please don't use that type of language'. You know, there was children in the area and other families and stuff. All I can say is it appears that things escalated to the point where he had to take further action."
South Texas College of Law Professor Gerald Treece says it appears that's where she messed up: "She could have walked away from this if in fact she had merely stopped talking about whatever was vulgar or offensive."
But he adds, that's not illegal. "You have a right to be really upset at police officers, that's not the problem. You don't have a right, however, not to follow their lawful orders. If a policeman wants to stop me, I have to stop; if a policeman tells me to do something, I have to do it."
Decker is a licensed peace officer in Texas.

You only have to read some of the responses to know that there are those who, if they were Peace Officer/Fire Marshalls, would do the same thing.SCone wrote:Ask yourself why ANYONE would bother with this issue if it really was ONLY a single cuss word, as the woman is saying?

Already covered in the post just above yours.
Thanks, though.

Ah, he's also the code enforcement officer, so he is a professional busybody. And apparently a hypocritical one, at that.

Never ceases to amaze me. A fellow sees the need to pull a gun, killing two people & he's a hero. No one questions his actions, motivations or methods. Anyone that does, must be an idiot.
But if it's a LEO, nothing said or done is ever acceptable.
My hats off to these people that take up the cause of trying to uphold the law. Knowing that nothing will ever be "good enough", nothing will ever be correct, and everything they ever say or do will come under the microscope of scrutiny by all.
Thank you for the job you do.

Congratulations to Gecko45 for your new job as assistant to the fire marshal. I feel better knowing you're still working hard to keep the shopping experience safe for the whole family.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If it's on the internet, thank a geek.

The guy is a Barney Fife. He's got a 10 gallon hat to cover up his pinhead.
I hope he gets fired.

"Out here, due process is a bullet."
"Why Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave."

When he does fire code inspections at movie theaters I wonder if he writes tickets to owners who show R rated movies.

If this is indeed a crime, I'm going to have a reeeeealllly small class size this year.

I must agree... as it "appears" that many people seem to lack reasonable communication skills, and they resort to vile substitution words. OK, I'm no prude and I've verbalized with the best of them... just not in public ears. I respect other people (and myself) more than that. These vile words convey strong emotion, and sometimes it just feels good to cut loose. But public verbalization is totally un-acceptable, just like going to the restroom in public. We don't want it, we don't need it, and we certainly don't have to tollerate it. So, keep your garbage mouth private.anygunanywhere wrote:Some people need to learn how to adequately populate their discussions with civil descriptors and colorful terms without continually reducing all of their discussions to the lowest common denominator - gutter filth.bdickens wrote:Ooh, someone said a naughty word!
BIG DEAL!
There are adults wandering out in the world unsupervised and sometimes they use adult language. So what. Merely using strong language in a conversation with someone is not disorderly conduct just because some little milquetoast pansy overhears it.
I agree with WarHawk-AVG. Some people need to grow thicker skin.
Mr. Cotton and the moderators continually remind us of the standards that exist on this forum and we excuse this example of obnoxious behavior by insisting we develop a thicker skin?
You wouldn't talk to your mother, wife or daughter that way, it is not acceptable behavior in a civilized society, and I would not tolerate your using it in the presence of my family.
As I have been taught, seek the beautiful things that exist in your life.
