This is the exact reason why I am fed up with mainstream media with their over sensationalism and divisiveness just for profits. Correlation does not infer causation. A more probable explanation is that the denser the population, the more likely people will freak out. It makes sense as transmission rates will be higher than in more rural areas. It is also known that the denser the population, the higher the percentage of Democrats. Hrm... I'll just leave it at that.

The John Hopkins site now shows almost 108,000 worldwide and almost 500 in the US.
It appears almost now in every county. It appears eventually it will be everywhere. One guy in New York gave it to 43 people so it seems to spread very easily. The younger you are the better. Not good for me.
One wonders if isolating yourself as it goes into your community, just delays you getting it, or if it could burn out while you are in hiding.
We will see.

Texas State University has now concluded that this is going to be bad. They have cancelled ALL study abroad programs for this summer and will examine them again for the fall. No word yet on what they will do for students, like my son, who have a major where studying abroad is a degree requirement.
It is especially bad for my son because this is normally done between the junior and senior year for his major (International Studies) and he is a junior now with plans to graduate next May. His original course was going to be in Morocco and his alternate was in Quito, Ecuador. Neither of these countries is even mentioned (yet) in CDC travel advisories.

We are wasting precious time not treating this as an emergency.

The H1N1 Virus was far more deadly than Corona virus, Obama let it go on for 9 months before he did anything! Yet media is making a huge deal out of Covid 19!

Death toll in Italy went up 133 in one day.
My understanding it all started from one man who was told to self quarantine and instead went to his job at a Chinese restaurant. He was not Chinese btw.m

With all this talk about people not gathering in public places, why are they not discouraging voting?

The way I understand it, the Study Abroad association/organization has cancelled all of the programs. A friend's daughter was suppose to be in Japan starting later this month, first UTSA made her change her flight around, then Study Abroad changed her location, then UTSA cancelled her program, then Study Abroad said that it would be cancelled....now she can't get into any classes, her whole spring semester is blown. she MAY get to go in the fall, we'll see.srothstein wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 2:18 pm Texas State University has now concluded that this is going to be bad. If the Uni doesn't make a priority of getting her into classes, shame on them.SewTexas wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 11:48 amThe way I understand it, the Study Abroad association/organization has cancelled all of the programs. Re: Corona Virus (COVID-19) from China: Its going to be bad.
I thought this was useful information about disinfecting surfaces...
https://www.journalofhospitalinfection. ... 3/fulltext
Conclusions
Human coronaviruses can remain infectious on inanimate surfaces for up to 9 days. Surface disinfection with 0.1% sodium hypochlorite or 62–71% ethanol significantly reduces coronavirus infectivity on surfaces within 1 min exposure time. We expect a similar effect against the SARS-CoV-2.
TL/DR
-- Ethanol and isopropanol..... minimum 30 seconds kept wet. Can be used on fabrics. Will not bleach out color.
-- The Clorox "Clean Up" that contains "Sodium hypochlorite" is also very good... min 30 seconds wet. Good for surfaces where you're not worried about bleaching. This one.
-- Hydrogen peroxide is also good... min 1 minute kept wet.
We picked up some cheap spray bottles from Lowes for spraying H2o2 and alcohol. Already used the H2O2 for cleaning the grill. Works well for that too. Just be sure to rinse with water afterward.
Forget about Clorox wipes... requires 4+ minutes of surface wetness.

More tips....
-- Get a smartwatch and keep your phone in your pocket/purse. This way you don't have to put your possibly hazardous hands into your pocket to answer the phone, or put your hands and phone near your face. I wear my watch into the shower and wash it. Have to pay attention to drying the altimeter hole or it won't register stair climbing correctly. Soap residue.
-- If you don't have a smartwatch, use the speakerphone or a bluetooth headset.
-- After washing up at the end of the day, take a clean paper towel, moisten it with >60% alcohol and wipe down your phone. Keep it moist for >30 seconds. Avoid getting any liquid in the charging port. Or the speaker or microphone if your phone is not water rated. Same for your wallet.

And now, the beaches are warm, and spring break is starting up. Hundreds of thousands of intoxicated, unwashed college students lying on top of each other for a week, then dispersing across the country.
