One view of the Bible sets Adam and Eve about 6000 BC and thus the beginning of the world. This was the common belief of the religious and educated up until about the 1500's AD.

Advances in Geology showed that this date was incorrect. A day in the life of God is not the same as humans. Thus the universe is much older.

Some Bible scholars believe that the dinosaurs existed in the time of Adam, Eve and Noah. Thus they would be on the Ark. There is a spot in Texas where dinosaur tracks and human tracks are together in the same fossilized stone. This is somewhat of the holy grail for Bible scholars who share this view.

Had the movie included dinosaur eggs or small baby dinosaurs, the movie would have been more interesting and certainly more talked about.

I don't believe I've said that, but okay. FWIW, I didn't supplant the Bible with my "interpretation" - I quoted and cited it, even offered what I saw as reasonable conclusions from what it says. But offering said conclusions is not "interpreting" it, it's just reasoning from the text. Interpreting it is saying that what it says means something else, kinda like what's happened with my posts.

The Bible says that everything was created in six days, ergo if dinosaurs existed (and I believe they did) they existed with antedeluvian man. Since the Bible tells us that a pair of each animal with the "breath of life" (Heb. nephesh same word for 'soul') was brought to the ark, then the dinosaurs would have logically been included; unless there was some kind of global extinction event not recorded in Scripture and requiring huge assumptions. In my opinion, that is unlikely.
Drawing conclusions is interpreting.

We could have had the dinosaurs go after the humans on the ark and how the humans have to kill them off. It would be the prequel of prequels.

Uh, okay. I am interpreting that there is not going to be any answer to the points made nor do you have any interest in doing so; my opinion and interpretation only.

And with that, I think my participation in taking this Off Topic thread further Off Topic should be concluded. When a topic's responses begin to become facetious, I see no value in my fanning the flames.

Still not going to see the movie.

Not only that, but really, why would a non-religious person or atheist pay money to see this movie since however it is distorted, it is still taken from a religious text?
Good storytelling is entertaining. I think a Buddhist could enjoy watching "The Ten Commandments" even though it's from a religious text outside their tradition. Someone can enjoy stories about Greek gods and demigods without believing in that pantheon.

I'm not saying this movie is good storytelling. Just making a general comment about stories with religious ties.

Most scientists believe in global warming, that Darwin's theory is truth, and that a Mars rock was found on Arctic ice.

I do not absolutely believe that the creation narratives in Genesis are scientific fact because believing that God created everything to me is what the narratives state. God made everything and found it all good. By the way, God made the nothing too before even nothing existed. Discuss that in your philosophy class.

I do not trust the commonly accepted methods of dating geological formations or fossils.

This discussion can go on forever.

I am not going to see Noah. It is a piece of hollywood trash that degrades scripture and mocks the Word of God. Atheists using God's Word to support their extreme environmental agenda, which in reality seeks the extinction of undesirable humans.

I agree. But I have limited time so I have to limit my viewing in some way, and my principal way of doing that is to select movies with subject matter that interests me. If I hear that a movie has good story telling on a subject I'm not normally interested in, I'll check it out. That's not the case with this movie though.

Just accept the bible is not a history book and it will be easier to make sense of the world around you when you don't have to reconcile everything with a book written by men in the Bronze Age, who had little understanding of the universe around them.

As bad the the Noah movie probably is, it would probably be much worse if it followed the book.

Wow. That's not an attack on anyone's religious beliefs at all. :banghead:

Can you explain this comment? What does atheism have to do with the environment and extinction of undesirable humans? I feel like I owe you a chance to explain yourself.

Do you mind if I pull up a chair? This looks more entertaining than the movie.

Sure.

Aronofsy (sp?) is an atheist.

The movies is not about scripture, it is about the horrible humans who pollute mother earth.

All of the bad humans must die to save the earth from pollution, not sin. Extreme environmentalism professes the extirmination of humanity. Commit suicide, save the planet.
