Best Burgers in Your Area

I ate at a Five Guys in Northern Virginia a few years ago and it was very good. I ate at two different Five Guys in Texas within the past year and neither was anything special. Maybe it's like when Ninfa's expanded too fast.

Gotta second that opinion - we ate many, many burgers at 5Guys in Virginia. when we've gone there for the rocketry finals within the last few years, but the Texas 5Guys seem to lack the spirit that the Virginia locations project. There, you're having an experience - here, it's a burger. And they overcook the french fries in both places.

Tookies Burgers in Seabrook...

Their Squealer is amazing... And the meat IMHO needs nothing ... No Ketsup, No Mustard, No Mayo, No Nuthin'

It just masks the awesomeness of the beef.

But, I heard Landrys recently bought em out so hopefully they don't bugger with the mix.

Edited to add, after all the hy.pe about In and Out coming to Allen, I was totally unimpressed, both by the huge wait to get served (I left after 15 minutes, it's a burger for Pete's sake) and when we finally went there, they got upset because I wanted "plain and dry" and they didn't seem to know how to make it that way. I won't be back.

Should also mention "Sloppy Burger" in Albany NY, actually "Sutter's Mill and Mining Company" right across the road from the State University at Albany, a popular watering hole for the students, the last time I was there, 20 years ago, they used fresh ground, on site, beef in their burgers, which were huge, and dripping with juice, and cheese would overflow down the sides. I understand it's been under new management and is merely a shadow of its former self.

Smashburger
Fuddrucker's (Revisited recently after the burger-joint explosion in the area. Still holds up well. Maybe it got a few more points because we'd spent all day at the water park with four kids, but man, it hit the spot.)

Specialty:
Love Shack. (Try the Dirty Love Burger with the fried quail egg. I do mustard only for sauce, though.)

I've been wanting to hit the Love Shack and Fred's. Got a buddy that frequents Fred's, says it is GREAT! We used to have the Tarrant County Independent Hamburger Company in Grapevine and it was GREAT!

I haven't eaten a truly great burger around here in years. There used to be a couple of local Sugar Land burger joints, but that was before the mall was put in, and we became a haven for franchised mediocrity.

I agree. Never understood the big deal with In-N-Out. Five guys is good, but not great. For my money, the best fast food burger is Whataburger (no onion, no mustard, add mayo) with Onion rings.

My favorite burgers of old are both from the pre-franchise days.
Fuddruckers pre-franchise original location on Chimney Rock. You would build your own and then sit under those tents outside to eat.
Chili's pre-franchise, when the only items on the menu were Chili, the Oldtimer, The Trip, and those soft tacos. I'm a "Chili's Trip" girl, but they took it off the menu years ago, so now I have to explain how to MAKE the darned thing. It's a pre-formed commercial patty, and they send out a few grilled onions and a ramekin with a couple of tablespoons of chili. Oh, and remember those hand-cut fries seasoned with cracked black pepper? Those were the days.

Nowadays, my favorite burger takes a long drive, or a flight. Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville has wonderful burgers. Mr. Shasta and the little Coogs like the Cheeseburger in Paradise. I'm a fan of the Al-vacado Burger made with a beef patty. Really perfectly seasoned meat, and they load it with chunky guacamole and an onion ring. Close to perfect.
