how would you handle this.
Since becoming a card carrier and even a slight time before that I try to handle things in adult manner, whatever that may mean. I used to be a person that handled confrontation with confrontation. Anyways my wife had told me the people downstairs have been banging on the ceiling when our daughter, who is not even two, runs across the floor. We don't let this go on will tell her no jumping running etc. WHILE telling my daughter stop running they bang on the ceiling VERY hard VERY loudly and 3 times. My wife's obnoxious friend just so happens to be over THIS time and bangs on the floor back. I go in the living room after getting dressed and say no more banging back WE have to live here! So heres my problem. They have parties, play loud music, just are loud pretty much regular every weekend. I have never made any complaint, talked them about it, anything in anyway to give them the idea we have an issue with this crap. This time I decided to call the apartment and ask them if we can get moved to the first floor and explained we had wanted to do so anyways, but this kind of sealed the deal.
Moving would be a pretty big inconvenience but my wife is the one here most the time so its her that has to deal with anything I may do or say. Hence her wanting to move.
I would like to go knock on the door and ask them to please explain to me their issues, I have not.
Thoughts? Not sure if it matters but they are a younger couple with one kid. I have seen the guy he is a partier "ufc" kind of guy which I will assume will go down that "road". I have nothing to prove but the country boy in me knows how this would be solved outside the city limits of Mckinney.
All opinions welcome. For my local people how about this weather? Ill take a cooler spell but these storms canceled my finishing plans!

IANAL, LEO, Counselor or Ann Landers.
I feel your pain. I have been in a similar situation. There are always inconsiderate buffoons that cross your path, especially in apartment buildings.
1. Lose the country boy attitude.
2. Talk to your neighbors. If that doesn't work see step 3, etc.
3. Talk to your landlord.
4. If they are breaking the law, talk to the police.
5. Move. Moving is always inconvient, even if you want to.

If they have loud parties, you can call the apartment management to complain. You can also call the cops if they're violating a noise ordinance or serving alcohol to minors. It might be a good use for a $20 disposable phone if you think the neighbors are the retaliatory type.

Been there. If you live in a 4-plex apartment, you should ask the other nieghboors if the parties bother them. You want some numbers on your side when you approach apartment management. Everyone knows if you live below someone in an apartment, you WILL hear them walking around. I wouldnt worry about your kid. You should do something before the problem escalates though.

Re: how would you handle this.
honestly? as a wife and a mom.....
I would want my husband to say, "honey, for your protection, and for the protection of our child....and for my peace of mind when I am not here....we are moving" Inconvenient or not. (that's me)
We had a crazy neighbor just when our daughter was new born....we'd just moved when I was preg....my husband was ready to move, he wasn't going to leave me in that mess, but the neighbor went overboard, cops got called, I left the duplex for the afternoon, and hmmm, that was the last I saw of the guy.

Re: how would you handle this.
Well the situation does need to be addressed.
But I think the way it is approached has a direct affect on the out come.
If you contact the landlord or the police I feel like it could escalate the situation more then might be necessary. I feel like the down stairs neighbors will assume who called any way!
Try not to judge the book by its cover, he could be a good guy!
I think I would go downstairs and approach them as a friend who lives below you. SUGGEST or REQUEST that yall try to figure out a way to get through this in a civil way.
I would bring up the fact that you KNOW your child (a 2yr old) can get a bit active at times. But reassure them that you stay on her about her "inside feet". Letting him know you are trying to keep from disturbing them.
Then bring up how there are times when their music disturbs you and that you would hope that you guys can figure out a way to try to work things out so you both can enjoy the current arrangement.
If this doesn't work then things can get a bit tough.
But I would try to be neighborly first, then gather the lynch mob and contact the authorities!
Good luck and keep us updated!

If he is a UFC kind of guy, I think of guys that wear affliction and Ed hardy shirts that are too tight.
I have friends that fight and win MMA competitions, and they don't fit that mold, so he is likely a juiced up a poser.
That said, you'll catch more flies with honey...
Amazing what an introduction can accomplish.

Re: how would you handle this.
There's a lot of peripheral questions that are relevant:
I do agree with a couple of things that WildBill said. Lose the "country boy" attitude is right. I'm not saying to forget your roots, but I am saying that confrontation with a willingness to go to fisticuffs is not the way to deal with this—particularly when the safety of your wife and daughter are involved. The other is to get management on your side. Just like the first person who calls 911 is the "good guy," the first one of you to take his concerns to the apartment management is the good guy.
- Do you like this apartment building enough that you'd be willing to move to a new apartment in the same complex, even though you'd have to live around Mr. Juicer MMA and his loud parties.
- Do you want your daughter exposed to this stuff, or do you think you can protect her from it if you stay in this apartment complex?
- Do you have a lease?
- If you have a lease, will it cost you very much to break it?
- Can you afford the cost of moving, including 1st/last, deposits, etc., while your negotiating for the return of deposits etc. from your current landlord?

Calling management to notify them of a loud party is not judging. It's a statement of facts. Having management deal with noisy neighbors and leaky plumbing is part of what you pay for as an apartment resident.J.J. wrote:Well the situation does need to be addressed.

That statement was directed more toward the opinion that the guy would be uncooperative or callous.hillfighter wrote:Calling management to notify them of a loud party is not judging. I felt like notifying the authorities (PD or landlord) would definitely send the event off on a negative foot where a simple introduction MAY handle the situation and spawn a new friendship!

Re: how would you handle this.
My computer crashed for the final time and I have been working a lot sorry to leave this thread dead.
He is not a "juicer" if he is he is getting royally screwed. "UFC guy" was like someone mentioned he plays dress up as one. I only mentioned my country boy "attitude" to save someone telling me the obvious but I guess I failed! ha ha.
I was with Tracy and so was my wife. The leashing office (yes I am on a lease) has made no effort to contact us back and my wife went up there to see what was going on and the manager wasnt there.
I can't afford to move nor do I have time. I would make the time and money for it should we have that option. She wants to move to a first floor now, but again no response from management. Thanks for all the responses. Sorry for the delay.
