another question is why are you buying another gun if you are " a little shy on bills lately" ?

Exactly. But I wouldn't hold a ma/pa store accountable either for a simple mistake. I just wish CTD wasn't in Texas. I think they have some great deals, super quick shipping. But paying those taxes is a deal killer usually.tbrown wrote:Why should a mom & pop get a pass if CTD doesn't.stroguy wrote:Let the big fish pay is rhetoric towards your original assumption.
Disclaimer: I don't like CTD because I think most of their dirt is priced like gold dust.
There was a dealership several years ago that had a misprint in the auto section of the newspaper. $9995, the 1 was missing from $19995. below it also was 10 units available. So we should hold this dealership to this misprint for the tune of $100K. Of-course there were many that demanded the price be honored. It was not.

Congrads on the recovered firearm(s). I had a handgun stolen out of my truck in Arlington almost 10 years ago. APD took the report, was very professional, but has yet to recover the weapon. I check back annually, and as a manner of fact, it's about that time...wish me luck.

Why don't you just ask someone who has that access?Thomas wrote:I can put a sticker on my windshield that I'm not responsible for any red lights I might run. Obvious exaggeration, but IMO it still doesn't make things right.jimlongley wrote:If you read all the fine print at the bottom of the newspaper insert, you will find their disclaimer that they are not responsible for incorrect pricing in the ad.
EDIT: I imagine if I had access to Nexis Lexis, I could probably find some case law that proves that notice isn't worth the paper it's written on, but even then they could still refuse service to a customer.
The analogy you provide is meaningless, and actually your driver's license represents a contract that says exactly the opposite. The disclaimer is included in the ad in case a copy writer gets it wrong, or a machine operator, or any other link in the chain, and the individual store is not responsible for the ad in the first place, so it's time to take it up with corporate.
Lest you feel that I am being intransigent or something, I should point out that in my retail job I have actually done a price match against another store chain's misprinted ad, which they themselves were honoring, to the tune of $700.00 on one transaction.

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt TYPO!!!!! and my stolen gun RECOVERED!
I have the hardest time understanding the getting upset part. Do people get violently ill upset at issues like this? Is it just that important? I don't think there was any ill intent here on the part of CTD. It wasn't a bait-n-switch. It was a simple mistake somehwere in the chain of getting the correct deal price printed. The old saying of 'if it seems to good to be true' comes to mind. Maybe a simple phone call before going to the store would have worked. To make the automattic assumption that you were going to get the deal of the century is setting yourself up for the disappointment.
Re: Cheaper Than Dirt TYPO!!!!! and my stolen gun RECOVERED!
I went into CTD in Ft Worth right after the last election. The yahoo at the catalog sales counter told me flat out that they were raising prices because Obama got elected. I left and haven't been back since. A shame since I bought my house literally 10 minutes from there. Like it was posted, their dirt was always priced like gold dust.
Ben Franklin once stated that beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. I tend to agree with him.

I don't know of any attorneys other than Mr. Cotton, and I'm not going to bother his time with it. I think he probably reads every topic, so if he was interested, he would have spoken up already.jimlongley wrote:Why don't you just ask someone who has that access?Thomas wrote:I can put a sticker on my windshield that I'm not responsible for any red lights I might run. The store is a representative (extension) of corporate (they can claim whatever they want or say whatever they want). That's why if I sued them in small claims court, I could deliver the papers there. I'm sorry if I provided a technically inaccurate analogy, it's the first thing that came to mind. How about this one: If I write out my tax returns, get the numbers wrong, but stamp a disclaimer saying that any mistakes are not my fault, what do you think the IRS will do? (keep in mind by definition and logic, no analogy will ever be perfect)
"I have actually done a price match against another store chain's misprinted ad, which they themselves were honoring" - that is awesome for both of the stores. I haven't been at my current retail job long enough to do something like that, but I work at a store where we eat great losses to satisfy the customers (generally they are relatively small, but at the end of the day they add up to a huge number, yet we are still making a great profit and hiring people).
"driver's license represents a contract" - "represents" maybe, "is" definitely not.

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt TYPO!!!!! and my stolen gun RECOVERED!
Surely you could find one person who could advance your thesis about Lexis/Nexis, otherwise that even fails as a point. By any standard of debate you have to be able to back up such statements, particularly the ones prefaced "I am sure . . ."
Still defective. You would come closer by saying that if someone else prepares your return, etc, as happens, but even then, YOU are signing that return as being 100% accurate, so . . .
Like I said, too many steps in the process, you can try suing them in small claims court, but I'll bet that dollar that I don't owe you that the court wouldn't even accept the suit, it's just not tortable because the ad has the disclaimer. OTOH, if you could find a way to prove that someone in the chain, say at corporate level, decided to run the ad with the wrong price, or knowing that there were none available (bait and switch), then you would have a point, and would find it in L/N too.
They will give you a chance to correct your errors.Thomas wrote:How about this one: If I write out my tax returns, get the numbers wrong, but stamp a disclaimer saying that any mistakes are not my fault, what do you think the IRS will do? How so? Why, then, can they take it away without due process? By going through the process to obtain a license to operate a motor vehicle on the public highways, you have obligated yourself to obey the laws pertaining to operating a motor vehicle on those highways, which is, by definition, a contract.Thomas wrote:"driver's license represents a contract" - "represents" maybe, "is" definitely not.
I charge a lot more than that for presenting training, I'll take it off your bill.Thomas wrote:by reading this, you owe me $1

Wouldn't that be unfair trade practices? Posting it at a lower price and then raising the price when you went to buy it?

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt TYPO!!!!! and my stolen gun RECOVERED!
That doesn't happen nearly as much as advertising something for sale at a really good price and having either none or only a couple that will go quickly. The unfair part is that they know this and don't say that there is only one or two or none. The strategy is to get as many people as you can in the store and then get them hooked on something else. Bait and switch ring a bell?CrimsonSoul wrote:Wouldn't that be unfair trade practices? Posting it at a lower price and then raising the price when you went to buy it?
The price on this gun wasn't just good, it was unrealistic. An obvious error. Remember the old saying, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is."

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt TYPO!!!!! and my stolen gun RECOVERED!
Even without a disclaimer ads are not guarantees the a retailer must sell whan an error has been made. Not good PR but realize this even big companies run on small profit margins in these days stiff competition. When I was in retail in the 60's and 70's there was little profit in firearms. In fact on popular makes like Rem-Win - and marlin we sold at cost on the popular models which accounted for the majority of sales. If we could pay the vendor bill in 30 days we did get a 10% reduction. There was a decent profit in selling the ammo and accessories to make up for it but typicaly net profit was 9-12%.
Regarding getting your weapon back be aware they may hold it for evidence. I had a pistol recovered about a year after it was stolen and was notified, but I was told the actor had to stand trial before I could get it back. I never heard back from the detective. I made many, many inquiries w/o any response. I ran into a friend retired from HPD that was working for the Harris County DA and I asked him to check if the actor was ever convicted and told him about my gun being recovered when he was caught redhanded using it a robbery. About two weeks after that conversation I got a card from the local PD that said if I didn't pick up my property in 10 days it would be destroyed. That was more than a year after the recovery. I have no idea if that's typical but don't ever give up!

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt TYPO!!!!! and my stolen gun RECOVERED!
I never buy ammo from CTD because they almost never have the best prices, and when they're competitive the sales tax usually negates the deal. Well, not completely true: I did once once buy some 12-guage shells from them.
But I've bought some odds and ends from them before, and always look over the by-mail catalog I get periodically. On the back cover of the latest one, the very first item at the top-left reads: "Lake City 7.62x51 NATO M80 FMJ, 147 Grain, 1,000 Rounds; AMM-723...$374.69."
That got my attention! New-production Lake City .308 for 38-cents per round? I hopped online and immediately looked up item "AMM-723"...should have known better, though. The catalog contained a typo. The "deal" wasn't for 1,000 rounds, it was for 500 rounds. Big difference. At 75-cents per round, I ain't biting.
All other issues aside, it would be nice if CTD could apply a little tighter quality control on their advertising.

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt TYPO!!!!! and my stolen gun RECOVERED!
My son-in-laws father took me to the Cabela's north of Ft Worth when I visited recently. On the way he pointed out the CTD store. He made a comment that the store and online are not "connected". I assumed he meant online prices are not the same as the store and didn't ask what he meant. How about it - Anyone know? I know HarborFreight honors online prices in store, don't know about places like Gander Mountain and Cabela's.Skiprr wrote:I never buy ammo from CTD because they almost never have the best prices, and when they're competitive the sales tax usually negates the deal. Their brick and mortar stores are not the same as their online store, they do mention it somewhere online.puma guy wrote: My son-in-laws father took me to the Cabela's north of Ft Worth when I visited recently.
