If someone making less than $36,000.00 a year pays any taxes they are doing something wrong.

I will have less income than that this year but I have to pay 14% of everything I earn to the FICA Fairy (more like an evil troll) plus $850 on my first $18000 of income, plus 15% on everything over $18000 if I earn that much.

Help a brother out. What am I doing wrong?

I have an accountant that specializes in tax law do our taxes. What I know about the tax code will not fill much of a sentence.

Based on what I understand about the tax credits etc the lower income folks should be doing quite well percentage wise. 14% ain't bad. Neither is 15%.

Tax Credits, namely the EITC (earned income tax credit) do make a difference but they are significantly impacted by income levels and especially age, the EITC not being available till age 25 or if you have dependents. There is only one deduction I can take which does not make a huge impact on the amount of taxes I pay, and as far as FICA and SS taxes I never will see a cent of that money returned based on what I see now. So to call me a dirtbag, paracite, commie because I think the OWS protesters have some good points then so be it but don't say I don't pay taxes or my fair share, do not tell me I am looking for a handout, I am looking for fairness in politics and the tax code as I said before the fact Warren Buffett pay 18% on most of his income is wrong. The top 1% have far too much influence than ANY of us do.

If you are looking for fairness in politics and taxes, identifying yourself with the OWS is not the way to convince people of your intent. You need to identify yourself with a different group.

A female protester emerged from the crowd and an "exacto razor blade attached to a pen or pencil-like object," San Francisco police said in an email.

"The female slashed the inside of the officer's hand and ran back into the crowd before the officer had time to realize he was cut," police said.

In a second incident, a protester grabbed an officer's police radio and ran back into the crowd. As the officer attempted to retrieve it, a second protester blocked the officer and tore his uniform and cut his cheek, police said, intimating that a weapon had been used.

The officer retrieved his radio and both male demonstrators escaped into the crowd, police said.

Nice folks......just like the Tea Party.

Well these guys are getting cleared out of just about every city they are still in, including NY mostly for "sanitation issues" YUCK! They do have a few legitimate grievances, but went about their protests all wrong so now the story is not their grievances, but their behavior (which has been disgusting). Way to go ding dongs--now all anyone will remember is the mess you made. Next time try a grown up protest.

Let's get something straight, Warren Buffett paid 18% on most of his income AFTER the IRS was paid 35% corporate income tax on those SAME earnings. So, the 35% plus the 15% (plus or minus some marginal amount) long term capital gains tax equal 50%. The Federal Government gets 50% of a corporation's profits.

If that is not enough, I will eat my hat.
