Texas Raised, moved to Kentucky and now...

So Yesterday, I got my Kentucky license plate and today my Kentucky driver's license. Got the license so I wouldn't have to go to a CCDW (Carry Concealed Deadly Weapon) class. It was sooooo painful to relinquish my Texas identity. But I did open carry yesterday for the first time here in Kentucky. I didn't get the stares I thought I was gonna get. It felt really good. I pray that 2011 will bring to pass open carry in Texas. Kentucky is fine, but Texas is home and there ain't no place like home. Yes, I am military. Here by "need", not by choice. The grass isn't greener on the other side.

I know people have been pushing for open carry here in Texas and I hope it passes,but as for me no way.I want it to be a surprise if I ever have to take it out.Who knows? some bad dude could say to himself:Hey thats a nice looking pistol on that guys hip,I want it. See my point.

This is a possibility, but can you point to any case of that actually happening in any state that does allow OC?

No,sorry I can't.I just had that thought.I've read stories of people getting killed for their tennis shoes,how much more valueble is your pistol.If they stuck a gun in your back,then your'e sunk.If they catch you unaware from behind,there's nothing you can do.Or if you are spotted before something goes down and decide to shoot you first.I admit I don't have any data to back me up. sj

I'm not trying to be a pain in the butt, btw, just trying to have a civil discussion. Also I probably wouldn't OC very much even if it were legal. The thing is though, that there is at least one documented case of an OCer stopping a robbery simply by being in the building

No,I wear a watch and carry a cell phone like almost everyone else.I also carry concealed,I can get it out just as fast and I don't need to show off my pistol for everyone to see and cause worry or panic in other people.

Non-residents don't need the CCDW class. But in order for my Texas CHL to be right (address updated), I had to get a Kentucky DL. Sent a copy of Ky DL to Texas, CHL updated with new address. Then another updated Tx CHL (within a week )was sent to me with new Ky DL number on it. That I didn't have to initiate.

Thanks, sorry it took so long to reply. I carry a Glock 19 and/or Kel-Tec PF9. Nope, don't shoot a M9 at work. Good ol M4 .

I spent 22 years in the AF and never gave up my TX driver's license, but I didn't have a CHL then, either.

You could have just done a change of address. DPS has (or at least had) no problem putting an out of state address on a TXDL.

I think if OC were an invitation for a crook to take your weapon, you would think it would happen to cops at least occasionaly or at least to security guards or armoured truck guys, etc. I would like to know how often it happens. I believe almost all criminals would rather pick on someone without a gun. But the best thing about CC is that no one knows who's packin.
