Stupid thieves.....
I was grilling this 4th of July weekend and had friday off to start the relaxing weekend early. As I rolled the grill out of the garage, I noticed that my acetylene torch was missing. As I glanced around, several other things appeared to be missing as well. Then, I spied this huge gap where my reloading brass was stored, and trays of bullets off my shelves were gone. The spot where my new Dillon 550 is bare, my rolling tool case is gone (even though it was pretty beat up). All the CD's and DVD's we never watched are now gone as well as the new order of 200 .45acp 230gr +p Rangers that just arrived. So far, with all the tools and stuff missing we're looking at about $10k worth of stuff. I hadn't realized that CD's/DVD's were worth so much until the officer who took the report mentioned they were $10-$20ea........wow, does that stuff add up.
If anyone should happen to find a steal of a deal on a 550b with 10k 9mm cases, dies and 7000 bullets.........let me know!

Re: Stupid thieves.....
Thing that really angered me was that they took all my reloading stuff and left primers, powder, Mitutoyo calipers and the 3 Dewalt drills to take bullets???? 7000 9mm bullets is allot to carry out. And they only took my good bullets, not any plated stuff I had opened up. Just the boxed good stuff.

I am really sorry. Few things are as frustrating as having your hard earned property stolen by some no good who can't be bothered with an honest days work.
I know it is not much consolation, but everyone has a bad a day on the job. When you are a thief, your bad day may end with you looking down a 12 gauge...for about one second.

I watch the sale boards pretty close. I will remember this for sure. Sounds to me like they knew what they were after in the loading dept. Sounds to me like a steel to keep.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

If you have any suspects, try to find out how much they want for the torch and the .45ACP.age_ranger wrote:I was grilling this 4th of July weekend and had friday off to start the relaxing weekend early. I am sorry to hear that this happened. My wife and I have been harping on the kids to leave the garage door closed at all times, even when doing yard work. This is just one more testimonial to the importance of keeping your home locked up.
I watched that youtube video and have already taken a piece of wire and tied up the release latch. Thanks for that security tidbit.

Re: Stupid thieves.....
Many years ago I had to file a claim for a theft, and it was such a pain remembering when and where I bought the items and how much I paid for them. After that incident, I found some free home inventory software that allows you to catalog your household contents. You can add pictures, file attachments, and scan in receipts. It was a somewhat daunting task to get a lot of our previous purchased items, but now that I've used it for a while, anything new that we get almost immediately gets scanned in, photographed and updated. Not only is a copy on our computer and backup drive, another copy is in our safe and I occasionally e-mail it to myself (Yahoo) to keep a copy "off-site."age_ranger wrote:........wow, does that stuff add up.

Re: Stupid thieves.....
If they got in as austinrealtor suggested, here's a simple fix:
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Worth doing even if they didn't get in that way.

Re: Stupid thieves.....
Well, thankfully, AllState is going to give me the replacement cost instead of the depreciated amount for all my items. That's a plus. Most of the CD's and DVD's we didn't watch or listen to and I was going to get rid of them anyway. We're moving out of the area. This makes two intrusions on my home within a year. First one, my German Shepherd ripped the guys arm to pieces as he broke out a corner of a window and tried to unlock it. She pulled him in the rest of the way.......Good Dog!!
Most of this is material and can be replaced. My biggest issue is the intrusion into my man cave. There's a brand new PX4SD waiting for the next idiot who thinks he's man enough to pull this off while I'm at home! Still unsure of the exact time this was pulled off, but I'm thinking it was at night when we were home. Thank God for insurance. Looks like a $12k claim already.

Re: Stupid thieves.....
I leave it open a lot if we're going in and out, but then, we have two cameras overlapping on the approach to the garage, and anyone going in during the day will have to get close enough for a really nice identifying shot. At night they might to be too easily recognized, but it's still a lot better than nothing.PJK wrote:I am sorry to hear that this happened. Of course, if they're brazen enough to pull up in the driveway, there's a really good chance that the license plate will be legible in at least one camera view.
I can't even convince my wife that it's a bad idea to go for a walk while I'm taking a nap, and leave the front door unlocked so she won't have to take her keys. This is just one more testimonial to the importance of keeping your home locked up.
Do they not put sliding bolt latches on most garage doors these days? It's a lot more secure than fiddling with the release, and a lot easier to deal with when the power goes out and you need to get out in the dark.I watched that youtube video and have already taken a piece of wire and tied up the release latch. Re: Stupid thieves.....
I haven't seen one on a house built in the last 20 years unless the owner added it afterward. Most people want their garage door to open and close at the push of a button, not fiddle around with locks.KD5NRH wrote:Do they not put sliding bolt latches on most garage doors these days? This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.
