De Kalb: Woman shot through house door

#1

Post by seamusTX »

De Kalb -- A woman was shot three times through the door of her house at 3:30 a.m. Friday. A man rang the bell and demanded to be let in. When the woman refused, he shot through the door five times, striking the woman three times. She is expected to survive.

Nearby, a short time later, a man delivering newspapers reported being shot at.

The shooter is described as "a white male in his early- to mid-60s with a medium build .. wearing a denim shirt with pearl snaps. He possibly is left-handed. The shooter reportedly had longish white or gray hair..."

The victim is a teacher, but the attack does not seem linked to her job. Police believe the attacks were random.

According to one story, residents have been the targets of a series of pranks where someone rang the bell and ran away.

De Kalb is a small town about 30 miles west of Texarkana.

I wonder if the "pranks" were dry runs, or the lunatic nerving himself up for the attack.

The doctors are going to have a hard time removing the slug out of his chest if he rings my doorbell. This is a lunatic that needs to be hunted down and eliminated from society.

Ya know, your doorbell ringing at 3:30 AM is your first clue that something is just not right here.

Not to put too fine a point on it, yelling "Go away" from a less risky location and calling 911 would have saved this woman pain and possible disability and tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills.

In a town that size, I doubt the police had anything better to do at 3:30 a.m. than respond to a home invasion.

Perhaps I'm just not paranoid enough,, But if a human knocks on my door or rings the bell, I'll be answering it.. With caution, and a question or two prior to doing so maybe.. But...answer it I will...

"Ding Dong... YES... Sir, I evidently hit your parked car.....Ran over your cat.....wife is having a heart attack and I have no cell service......Avon :smilelol5:

That said i don't live in the big city, never have, never will. My drive way is 385 long and I live at the end of the street.. IOW I have clear fields of fire... :evil2: for a long ways.

Hope they catch the dude quick...

I'll bet the good citizens of De Kalb (population 1,800) will not be opening their doors to strangers until this kook is locked up or buried.

The first lesson is not to stand directly in front of the door. I always stand off to the side. And I'm paranoid enough that I don't have the hall light on so no one can tell when I'm looking through the peep hole. Just got to get that door camera hooked up though.

De Kalb isn't exactly the big city either.
