Another twist in recent years is the company that sells power to the homeowner is quite likely not the company that owns the power lines.

We have a 16 foot utility easement along the backside of our yard...Our fence bisects the easement...To access and perform work they have to remove a portion of my fence or the nieghbors fence to do any "heavy trench" work...That has not happened in about ten years...If that is the kind of work to be done, I have never had a bone of contention, because they usually notify way in advance, and assure and approve that the accessway gained is re-secured to my satisfaction in the end...

As for the meter reader vultures...You guys know where this is going to go...

They should know better than to "jump" fences...And damage the pickets and other features of those private property improvements...I have talkd the transient customer service and meter readers (when I catch them) that if they would give me notice, or leave a note and come back later, I will be more than happy to give them access to do the work...

The problem is...There is never the same person twice that does this, or that I talk to...

So I am usually caught between Iraq and a hard place... ;-)

First of all, I NEVER received any such notice. The house is as I bought it, in 2006. If the PUC wants to issue me such notice, they are free to do so. But until they do so, any such "mandates" aren't worth a cup of warm spit, because I haven't been notified.

Secondly, I don't expect "special" treatment. I expect "courteous" treatment - including from you, as long as you're not familiar with the particulars of my case - which means don't break my stuff if you don't have to. If "courteous" means "special" these days and is no longer the accepted standard, then no wonder our society is all jacked up.

Thirdly, 3,000,000 x 60 seconds is preposterous and an invalid calculation. The number of homeowners with accessible meters is the majority of that 3,000,000.
