Some of you need to read the links that seamusTX and CainA provided. Looks like I had this Decker guy pegged from the get-go. This isn't the first time he felt the need to throw his "authority" around.

That is the way it is supposed to be. Standing up and letting someone know when they have overstepped their bounds is not judging someone. Using that logic in the manner you prescribe would result in anarchy.
Some might argue that a little more anarchy and a little less nannyism would be a good thing.

Huh? Do you think a fireman is going to allow a drunk driver to proceed along his merry way? I've "had to act" to stop a drunk driver & I'm only a private citizen. My "act" was to call 911 and follow the car until the police showed up to take over.

It's a bit of a reach to bring prayer into a discussion on foul language.
Not really, some folks might concider the act of getting on ones knees, kissing the ground while pushing ones buttocks up in the air offencive, sexually suggestive and obscene.

I don't think so. I was very tempted to do just that when I landed at SFO after returning from a long trip in Southeast Asia. :patriot:

All charges have been dropped.
Decker still has his job. Fridge is still teaching her children language skills.

And they all lived happily ever after,

I had completely forgotten that I wrote that, three weeks before Ike. I should have kept my mouth shut.

It's interesting how many people like to bash the LEO's and play street lawyer. I can't count the number of times I had to answer to the brass after someone called them to complain that I didn't arrest or cite someone for cursing in public. Typically, I did what the Officer (yes, Fire Marshals are Peace Officers in the State of Texas) did and told them they were committing an offense and needed to watch their language.

If they complied, I made that the end of it. If they didn't, they went to jail.

Meanwhile, some bystander would call in and complain. Occasionally I'd get one citizen complaining because I didn't take the actor to jail and simultaneously another citizen complaining that I was throwing my weight around and violating someone's right to free speech. I'm not a peace officer any more, but if someone pops off with a bunch of foul language in front of my wife in public I'm going to say something to them about it.

And in the state of Texas, a citizen has the same arrest powers as a police officer. The big difference is it won't start raining police if you try to use those arrest powers and start losing the fight...or if you're wrong and it turns into false arrest, in which case you go to jail.

Too many people expect the law to do everything for them and refuse to 'man up' or shut up themselves. When officers do their job someone is always ready to second guess and criticize. Those guys get enough grief from their IA departments and the FBI...believe me, the bad apples are usually weeded out sooner than later and the system is heavily weighted against the officers from the get-go every time a complaint is lodged.

Shouldn't we give them a break once in a while and leave it up to the internal investigation? I'd really like this forum to be overwhelmingly pro-LEO, and I hate the glimmer of cop-bashing I see in some threads...those guys aren't the ones who write the laws, they're the ones sworn to uphold them and protect us.

This is good info to know. Let me get this straight. My parent's generation grew up with the N-word being totally socially acceptable. Now I know that using it now in a "private" conversation is OK. If a black Leo overhears you, nothing will happen because LEO's cannot be offended (even if the comment was directed to him/her). If a black person overhears you and is offended, it doesn't matter because the word was part of a private conversation between two people. Gee, it sure is nice to know I don't have to be nearly so careful anymore.

I'm not sure I'll practice this. If you do, like Dr. Phil says, "Let me know how that works out for you."
