I need a man bag... help

Post by TexasComputerDude »

Hi yall,

I've got a bit of a problem. Daily I have to carry so much gear that I'm losing my mind. I have been trying to find a "manly" bag that I can carry my gear in that doesn't look like a purse lol.

Daily I carry:
[*]HP Mini 1000, 10" netbook (with cables)
[*]iPhone
[*]Screw driver (2)
[*]Pen and Pad
[*]small length of cat5 with crossover adapter (god knows every time I leave home without it I end up needing it)
[*]a jump drive or two
[*]My portable HD
[*]Misc. Cables
[*]Misc. Gadgets

I also carry my CCW whenever possible but it doesn't need to be in the bag.

I'm seriously bulging in the pockets here lol. Do any of yall have any suggestions. I would like an open top because messenger flaps usually bother me. It needs to have a shoulder strap.

It would also be awesome for yall to post pictures of yalls manly bags.

Maybe gear bags a better word, I need a gear bag lol.

I think the simple answer would be a laptop case in an office environment or a range bag or rucksack in the field.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.

yea, but a lot of laptop cases are just to big for daily carry. I can't find anything in a netbook size that isn't really girlie.

One of the Maxpedition bags might work, but they do have a flap and are basically a "man purse."

Their products are very well made and can withstand a lot of abuse.

Lots of people carry back packs, and they don't look "girly"

Some times I just throw all my stuff into one of those canvass shopping bags the greenies are so fond of. My favorite at this time is an Omaha Steak insulated bag. Its a black shopping type back black heavy and stiff. It has an internal flap that keeps folks from peaking inside. I also carry netbooks cables and guns.

It has held my netbook, laptop, external drives, papers, jump drives, etc.

I love it and keep going back to it whenever I try a new bag. (It must be because I was raised by my Mom, and with my two sisters, that I have become a bit of a messenger bag / backup junkie. They changed purses a lot and I change work bags at about the same interval. )

I can think of 2 instances where I carry a bag.
I am currently living in an apartment and it is contrary to texas law to carry openly in my car, and it may be inapropriate for me to actually carry on my person. I will transport my gun inside a canvass shopping bag.

The second circumstance is when carrying a computer and/or a bunch of papers .. I will carry a laptop case. I can also stick a gun in the laptop bag if I choose.

I suppose I'm old enough and secure enough I don't really care what anyone thinks of my testosterone level. I don't even know what qualifies as a manbag. But I never thought of a heavy canvas bag or laptop bag as purse.

I have a Maxpedition Big Boy and I love it. This is the best place I've found price wise to buy them... It's where I got mine, and some friends got theirs, no problems with them.

I've carried a variety of messenger bags, this bag, motorcycle tank bags... I refer to all of them as "my purse" jokingly. I don't give half a darn what someone thinks of my "manliness" when doing so.

I'm puzzled.

If you need this inventory for work to earn a crust, then I understand. Your employer should provide a receptacle to carry all the necessary gear you must have with you. Unless, you're in business for yourself. If so, look at Koenig, they build great gear carry boxes for pickups. From the description of all the stuff you take with you, you need this.

If all this stuff is simply extraneous gear you simply can't live without everywhere you go, (that's why women need purses) then you may want to reconsider your priorities.

Real men don't carry "man bags" or ever utter such a term.

Or put "highlights" in their hair or allow themselves to become some sort of feminized version of P.C. accepted man.

Face it, the so called male equivalent to a purse is still a purse by any other name.
