Ferguson now comes to police chases
http://www.usatoday.com/pages/interacti ... gher-rate/
Blacks killed in police chases at 3 x a higher rate than whites.
When the lights come on. Don't run from the police instead: Stop in a safe location, roll down your window, be polite and keep both hands on the steering wheel unless asked to retrieve something.
It all seems real simple to me.

It is that simple. Unless you are committing a crime, just committed a crime, or you have an arrest warrant for crimes committed previously. Innocent people do not run from the police.

Re: Ferguson now comes to police chases
This is a case of the media looking for a story and slanting it to their narrative. But two-fifths of the chases of black drivers in 2013-14 involved offenses that appeared far less consequential. They began after officers tried to stop drivers for offenses so minor — including missing registration stickers, a driver without a seatbelt or a car with an engine that was too loud — that some departments would have prohibited a pursuit because the offense posed no danger to the public. Only about one-fifth of deadly pursuits of white drivers began over similar violations.
In Greensboro, N.C., an officer chased a 21-year-old black woman who drove 9 mph under the speed limit, something the city’s police chief later said could be a sign of drug trafficking. The woman fled, crashed and died; police found no drugs in her car.
Here are a few quotes from the story. Apparently they think we are so stupid as to not realize the PROBLEM is the fleeing not the race of the people fleeing. In the first quote if they are being pulled over for a minor traffic stop and they begin to flee it tells the LEO that there is something more than a simple violation which causes him to pursue the violator.
The 'inconvenient truth' is for the most part, whites pull over and the blacks DON'T!!! Simple, I could have written the story in 10 sentences or less
Re: Ferguson now comes to police chases
Pursuit is actually the correct term. Not "chase."
Re: Ferguson now comes to police chases
Sadly stats can get spun in any direction. Pick any product or action and you can find one group using or doing more than others. It's bad that the media spins it into race all the time.

Inspection stickers and speed limits are racist.

Re: Ferguson now comes to police chases
Actions have consequences. Flee from police and they chase you. Fail to immediately and peaceably cede control to police during an encounter and the consequences can end up being severe. These seem to me to be fairly simple concepts, but then again I hear that real "common sense" is being classified as a super-power these days.

Re: Ferguson now comes to police chases
There are people who think they can resist, run, fight the police and should be allowed to without consequences.
And some of them are "millennials" (such behavior isn't limited to one group) - little lefty snowflakes who cry "foul" when they break the law, as if being a millennial, gives them a get out of jail free card...
Yes, I recognize there are lots of millennials in the military. I don't include them among the lefties taught to be left by marxist college/university instructors.

Re: Ferguson now comes to police chases
There is fault by a small minority on both sides here, IMHO. All people should respect all police officers, and should immediately follow all of their commands. This is simple common sense, if nothing else. Nothing good can come from being combative or otherwise challenging an officer, in the moment. If nothing else, they have arrest powers, and firearms, at their disposal. There are some people in this country who do not do what they should in this regard.
And there are also some LEO's who do not do what they should, IMHO. When a car is pulled over on suspicion of speeding, for example, the first question should not be "where are you going?" I completely fail to see how the answer to that question is relevant to a determination of whether a driver was, in fact, committing the suspected violation. Giving the LEO the benefit of the doubt, maybe they are trying to help the driver to develop a defense of necessity (medical emergency), but I'm sure most all drivers would prefer to discuss defense strategies with their lawyer and not with an agent for the state who will be prosecuting them. Again, IMHO, the officer should simply keep the interaction focused on the suspected offense and not seek to expand the stop into a fishing expedition or a justification for an asset seizure, etc.
Most LEO's are not at fault here, and they do their jobs in a professional and respectful manner. And most people treat the police in a professional and respectful manner. Unfortunately, there are a few on both sides who are making things worse. And they are the ones who get all of the media attention.

Yes and we need to get the sober drivers off the road. They cause over 75% of daytime car crashes....TreyHouston wrote:

That's because even though they are sober, they are talking, texting or emailing on their phones instead of paying attention to how they are operating a 2000lb death machine.ScottDLS wrote:Yes and we need to get the sober drivers off the road. They cause over 75% of daytime car crashes....
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager
Re: Ferguson now comes to police chases
But wait, these same folks will argue that it's ok to play the radio or roll down a window or whatever, so, sniff, sob, choke, what's wrong with texting, endlessly blabbing on their phone, or email while driving?
Huh, Huh, what's wrong with doing that stuff while driving?
