Man from U.N.C.LE. was a favorite show of mine. RIP Robert Vaughn
Actor Robert Vaughn, best known as the secret agent Napoleon Solo in The Man from UNCLE, has died aged 83.
Vaughn was also famous for his role as Lee in the Magnificent Seven, and television roles in Hustle and Coronation Street.
The iconic actor died after a battle with acute leukaemia, his manager, Matthew Sullivan, told the BBC.

He had the original "pew pew" pistol, didn't he?

Maybe the first one on TV. I remember one of the rifles they had [or maybe THRUSH] was a souped-up M1 carbine.

Not stupid either. Went for his Ph.D. We took a class together at Cal State LA. Did not personally know him.

Yep. I always liked the "Uncle Carbine" though.

My dad wouldn't watch the show because he was wounded by a uniformed combatant using a P-38 while he was serving in Italy. "Mausers, Lugers, Walthers, don't they know those guys lost!" Was his favorite refrain.
"Caesar si viveret, ad remum dareris!"

A unique feature of that show was that Napoleon Solo's partner
was the blonde Russian....Ilya Kuryakin (sp?).

This show was on during the Cold War, but a Russian was the co-star.

Illya's character was Russian. David McCallum was actually from the UK.
From what I have read, Illya was more popular than Napoleon Solo.
They called him "the blonde Beatle"!

And, of course, David McCallum is still on TV in the series NCIS.
