I'm with Liberty, First Texas Bank in Copperas Cove accepts (and even prefers) loose coins that they run through their machine. Spent several years collecting, rolling, putting NAME and Acct# on wrappers, but a few years ago they said STOP, we would rather do it in our machine.

I have seen the same machines in Kroger, Randall's and Arlen's Markets. I haven't seen this in a bank, but I don't usually visit banks.

We use the Coinstar machines but since we shop on Amazon a lot we get an Amazon gift certificate and there is no fee paid for that. I think there are also other gift certificates offered besides Amazon that have no fee attached.

Again, thanks for all the replies! I was just trying to find out if banks still will accept bulk loose coins. Now y'all have me wondering if it is just the branch I went to and not Wells Fargo in general. Might have to start checking around some more. The problem used to be that only account holders could use this service and I'm willing to bet that is still true with the banks everyone has mentioned above. I'm happy with Wells Fargo so far and am not changing banks just because they don't accept coins that are not rolled.

Take home amount you want/need and leave enough to keep the account active for your next coin service.

JSC Credit Union near my house has a machine, however, non-member will be charged 10%.

Members are free up to $200 in deposits a day.

My bank, Amarillo National, will accept loose change and dump it into their coin counter and give cash. I don't even think they ask if I have an account. I have a coin jar with a counter on top so I know within a few dollars how much it is. Jar will hold about $200 mixed coins.

Another solution I have used in past is to put change in the self-service checkout machines at supemarkets, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. No markup. One time I paid for $80 groceries using change only.

I find this to be incredibly awesome. However, I don't think that I could ever convince myself to do it.

My bank, Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union accepts bulk coins in their machines. The machine is in the vaults with the safety deposit boxes, so you have to get a clerk to assist, but they do everything for you and give you your money in cash or deposit in your account.

I have heard that pennies in quantities greater than 100 are not legal tender if the payee refuses to accept them.

Then just do a handful each time. I made sure when I did it, it was not crowded and nobody was behind me so I was not holding up the line.

Texans had a free machine when I was with them, when they had financial issues I dumped them a few years ago.

Navy FCU also has a free machine, they have a location off Bush/190 near Garland.

Do you have to have an account with them? I know where that bank is, but I don't have an account there.

Yes you have to have an account, and to be a member you have to have a military connection.

My bank has the DIY machine you put your change in and take the receipt to the teller. If you have an account, you can get cash free of charge. I will not fill up my old glass 5 gallon milk jug anymore cause it's just too heavy to lift. The other day a woman came in while I was in line with several large zip lock bags full of quarters. Me being nosey, she was up to $2k by the time I left.

Most Randolph Brooks locations have one of these machines in the lobby. No charge for members and 5% (I think) for non members to use the machine.
