Hi All

2 weeks living in Texas, and CHL app has been verified received in Austin already. SHould be legal in 6 weeks or so!

My new workplace is 30.06 compliant. It's a large office building. What is a safe way to store my weapon in my car? Do any of you have a lock box secured in your car? Do I just lock it in the trunk? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I wrap the cable around one of the posts under the my seat.

I just keep it in the glove compartment.

The "Centerofmass" product is excellent.

On a side note, check your weapon weekly to see that it is still properly lubricated. By the time you get your CHL the weather will have cooled down some, but Texas summers can cause temperatures inside your vehicle to approach 140 deg. F.

Many gun oils and greases are affected at these temperatures (especially the oils).

Also, as of tomorrow (Sept, 1st) the newly worded "traveling law" takes effect, so you may wish to place your weapon in your vehicle while you wait on the CHL.

It's all a compromise. Using the glove box makes for "easy on / easy off" convenience. Since I need to do this quite frequently, it is a major concern.

By contrast, in 40+ years of driving, my vehicle has been broken in to exactly once. They grabbed a camera bag off the front passenger seat after smashing the window. Just a quick "smash and grab". The gun, in the glove compartment, was untouched.

When I park my car at the airport when I fly out of town, I lock my P3AT in the glove box. It is inside a small CD walllet I gutted. Mrs. Anygun gave it to me - has some drug name on it.

Anyway, I leave nothing out in the open for anyone to see. Most break-ins are snatch and grabs where they see something. I just make certain it is in the glove box before I pull into the parking lot so no one sees me stowing things.

Fair enough. I've had 2 vehicles stolen and a number of break ins, so I'm jittery when it comes to car theft....

Also, your gun may no longer be lubricated but everything under it will be...

I bought one at Cabelas for the same price as centerofmass. They appear to be exactly the same product. ie ...20 guage and deminsions ect..

My truck does not have a locking glove box so this is a better way to keep the BG from my gun that just an unlocked glove box. Only saw one bad review saying any adult could break into it..??? That easy?

Also TSA approved for travel which is good for me.

I have a couple of those from Cabelas also. About $32 a few months ago, noticed yesterday the larger size was in stock at $29.95. I have one in my truck cabled to the seat frame. The one in my sports car trunk is cabled to the framework under the carpet. The key is on the ring with the vehicle key.

I also have been using a gutted CD case. My wife had a black one that is the perfect size for a 1911 and two mags, so I liberated it. Looks pretty innocuous in the glove box or beside the seat.

You're probably making it more inviting. Most of the stories of car break-ins I've heard include "...and my case of CDs" in the list of what was taken.

I just put mine in the glove box and lock it.

I have found that most thieves need a reason to break in. They'll break in if there's something in sight or they know you have a nice stereo or something like that. A thief isn't going to break into a car and hope it has something of value.

Keep your car nice and cleaned out. Keep EVERYTHING out of site.
There is nothing in my car except a CD case (full of MP3 CDs only) and my gun. The CD case is hidden under the seat and the gun is in the locked glove box. If there's nothing in site, your car will remain untouched. For the most part.

Leave a CD of "Yanni, Master of the Pan Flute's Greatest Hits" on the front passenger seat and your vehicle will NEVER get broken into. Even the dumbest thief will assume you have nothing of value.
