Hi all,
Do you guys know of any cheap, low cost ranges to shoot at? It gets a little expensive with ammo and range fees.
Please fill me in with some good low cost places in Houston.

I can't help with ranges in your area but did want to suggest that you separate the two items, at least as you perceive the costs. If you will buy a bulk box of ammo, you can get it fairly cheap... lots of mail order options (SG Ammo, Freedom Munitions, etc.) and in Houston, you have a freedom munitions retail store if you can't find a deal at other retailers.

Anyway, the point is that if you buy a bulk box of ammo, it's done and you only feel the range fees when you go shoot. Not to mention you can save up to 50% on the ammo itself... and always have a bunch available to go shoot! :fire

Unfortunately 380 ammo is so expensive right now. I can’t find any good deals on bulk.

^^^ Good advice from fletchero
If funds are too tight for buying a case online, you might find some forum locals willing to sell you part of a case they have at home.

ammoseek.com is another good comparison site for bulk ammo. Other than that, Academy, Wal Mart, or Freedom Munitions is your best bet.

As for ranges, there are no cheap options that I know of in Houston. There are a lot of public ranges, but they will generally run you about $20 an hour or a bit more. If you plan to shoot a lot, you can get a membership at a place like Boyert Shooting Center. That will run you around $40 or $50 a month for unlimited range sessions.

Whatever you do, don't buy ammo at the range. That is guaranteed to cost 2X or more what you can pay elsewhere.

Congrats! :cheers2:

When I lived in Houston Marksman Indoor Range and Pasadena Gun Center were the low cost ranges. Not fancy, nor in good parts of town, but low cost. Pasadena Gun Center is inside of an old movie theater... a buddy of mine said it was the best movie theater he's ever been to!

Texas City Range is a nice and very well run outdoor range: Fee schedule

Congrats on passing the class. Athena is a nice range and is $18/hr. with no limit on guns. They also offer half off promotions so your rate on certain days would be $9. Monday for 55+ & vets, Tuesdays for CHL holders, Wednesdays for ladies, Thursdays if you tell them their Facebook word of the day. Happy shooting.

Best Shot range has ladies night Mondays

Their "Tactical Shooting" Sunday evenings is probably the best deal in pistol training you will find anywhere. Only $15 for quality instruction.

I will second the Texas City range. They are well run and staffed by some pretty nice people. The Texas City Range is a municipal range, run and managed by the City. I think its nice that at least one local government supports our spaort and 2nd amendment rights.
