I saw on the news a few weeks back that Galveston was discussing concealed and open carry at Mardi Gra. Does anyone know the outcome of it? I am planning to go this weekend and want to be safe about it.

Not sure what "Galveston is discussing"
Mardi Gras takes place in lots of locations
If you mean the parade, unlike Louisiana where carry is prohibited at Parades, I'd imagine it's OK on City-Owned property/ Streets in Galveston.
If you mean inside some building at one of the various "parties" other rules apply.

The TV news reports right before it began said open and concealed carry were both okay because of state law. There will be metal detectors and you will have to show your license to enter.

Grapevine could learn something from Galveston. They keep posting the two big Main Street festivals 30.06, even though they are municipal events, held on the closed off main street of town, taking up the entire downtown district. I'm guessing they'll add 30.07 signs this year. Until now, it has been my understanding that the police would enforce the signs as long as they were posted.

Great opportunity to exercise newly allowed open carry. I will go to the Festival if someone will come with me to video me being taken away by GVPD...

Perhaps, not wanting to attend anything that consists of loud, drunken revelers is a part of aging.
I'd pay NOT to go to any Mardi Gras or anything similar.
I like peace and quiet.
Now, get off my lawn you drunken lout!

I like to visit New Orleans for Lent...it's theoretically the only time of year it's bearable.

That's baffling.

Yes it is. I stopped attending when they started posting 30.06 3 or 4 years ago. I guess they don't need my money.

I can't think of a worse place to open carry. Pickpockets .. Drunks and Fights all over the place. People standing shoulder to shoulder. At any rate anyone going there should be very careful, whether you're CC OC or unarmed..

Be careful. The Drunken Monkey has a TABC Red license. They should have 51% signs posted.

I worked Mardis Gras on Galveston for a couple of years as an extra job, we didn't hassle anyone over CC, if you do it right no one knows. OC would be a bad idea, I've chased people through the crowds for stabbings, thefts, and assaults and even in uniform it is a pain keeping distance from the drunks to maintain your weapon.

Open carrying in a crowd of drunks and party people is a very bad idea.
