Temporary Driver License

I know I need a drivers license or a DPS Id to carry in addition to my CHL is a temporary drivers license ok

I don't think you need a driver license to carry unless you are driving. A temporary DL is a legal ID. I received my CHL while still having a temporary DL. IANAL

To start the online application you need an "audit" number that I cannot find on the paper temporary DL.
Guess I have to wait until the real one comes in before starting the process, scheduling class, etc.
I was trying to minimize the time as much as possible, since my other state license is now invalid without the state DL.
Feels uncomfortable being unarmed after so many years carrying.

You don't have to have started the application process to take the CHL training. But you will need to give a Driver's License number to your instructor.

A temporary DL is fine but you are required to show identification
in addition to the CHL card if you're armed and a peace officer or magistrate asks for ID.
