afaik, neither Franklin BBQ nor Magnolia Cafe are posted 30.06 or 51%. President pops in, Secret Service frisks you and finds your weapon. You have a valid CHL. What happens? I assume they take gun - do they give it back when he's gone? Under what authority could they take it? You're not on federal property or violating any laws, right? Is there some kind of "halo rule" that follows the president and creates a federal gun free zone around him?

Interesting question, I'd like to know the answer.

A random stop & frisk at Magnolia and Franklin? Didn't turn up any MJ? Color me surprised.

I suppose I understand the need for the frisk, but I would most definitely demur.
Better that I leave anyways. I don't need a visit from the IRS for what I'd surely say.

I think USSS is very familiar with CHL and dealing with it. They would more than likely either escort you out or ask you to surrender your CCW until he is gone. Most would probably never even know they had found a gun on you.

I rather doubt you'd have a choice about suddenly leaving. If you tried that the SS would probably be all over you.

I doubt this frisking, treatment, etc. was any different for any other President, i.e. not restricted to our dictator, ah, I mean President.

As I understand it the secret service is very brusque & no nonsense to the point of being intimidating when they secure an area before the president enters.

One of my favorite stories is about Dubya being taken to his motel room. SS & staff were rushing about and giving terse commands to guests and hotel staff. They then commandeered the elevator, held it at the ground floor for several minutes, and then frisked the poor hotel employee who was assigned to the presidential party.

When Dubya got on the crowded elevator he saw the anxious young man backed in to a corner. The poor kid was almost turning blue from holding his breath he was so anxious. Dubya then spied a camera the young man had clutched in his trembling fist & said while extending his hand, "Hello, Im George Bush, what is your name?" Would you like to take a picture with me?

Dubya then took the camera, handed it to an agent, put his arm around the young man and said, "do your thing Joe and hide my bad side". He had the agent take a few pics and then asked the young man about him self and his family.

Later the young man said he was too afraid to ask for a photo and would have let the opportunity pass if it had been for the graciousness of the president.

BTW agents to a man have stated how much they loved protecting Dubya and Laura because they were so unassuming and considerate of others.

When I lived outside of DC I had many friends who were in the Secret Service. In fact, most the people I knew had many friends in the Secret Service. It always made me wonder how many their really were.

What limited action I had with the Secret Service on duty, and the friends I had always had the attitude of "we do want we want, and if someone doesn't like it the lawyers can sort it out later." They typically feel they have one job, and that is to protect the Prez. How they accomplish that is inconsequential.

They know most people will never take it any further than a grip. It's a lot of trouble and expensive to hire an attorney. I'm sure the SS does not have time to debate the law when assigned to presidential protection detail.

They won't be frisking me without cause.

I'd be super peeved if I had stood in line for 3 hours with a bunch of hipsters only to be removed from the premises so a politician I can't stand can cut to the front of the line.

My understanding is that his order was around $600. He could have called than in and avoided the line!

Keith has the way of it. I'm not waiting three hours for barbeque. When I lived in Cali maybe, but here - barbeque is plentiful and rich, its the Holy Land!
