Scratching my head over this e-mail from [Pre-paid legal service]

They describe a scenario where a CHL holder made several very foolish mistakes and claim they could have helped him. To someone with any knowledge of CHL law and good practices, this ad does nothing for their credability:
NON-MEMBER NIGHTMARE: WHEN IT GOES WRONG
After a late dinner at a local burger joint, a high school math teacher (and a new concealed carry license holder) is driving home with his wife, when a pick-up truck pulls up very close behind their car. It then swerves around their car and races past with the rude truck driver yelling harsh words and giving "friendly" gestures. Unfortunately, shortly after this episode, road construction brings all traffic to a halt with the teacher's car behind the pick-up truck. The truck driver gets out of his truck and starts walking toward the teacher's car. The teacher seeing this and wanting to keep any confrontation away from his wife, exits his car. But in the heat of the moment the teacher forgets to put the car in park, so his car continues rolling forward and smashes the rude driver's truck. The truck driver, after the collision, is none too happy at this point.
BAD TO WORSE
In what can only be described as making a bad situation worse, the teacher freaks out over the course of events and draws his concealed carry pistol and fires warning shots to diffuse the situation. The driver of the truck rushes back in his vehicle and speeds off. The teacher is arrested later that night and charged with felony assault.
Unfortunately for this individual, he was not a member of U.S. Law Shield. Almost everything went wrong that night and his legal and financial nightmare was only beginning. This is just one of the scores of stories we hear from legal gun owners who all thought the same thing, "It won't happen to me." Whether it is the gun owner making a big mistake, or the legal system being guilty of making a big mistake, it can happen to you.
It would seem to me that the correct course of action would have been to remain in the vehicle with the window rolled up, display the weapon if the perp began pounding, and shoot to stop the threat once the window was breached. Then perhps [pre-paid legal] could actually help.

How does it negatively affect their credibility? The guy is charged with felony assault over warning shots. He will have huge legal bills now. [pre-paid legal] membership would have afforded him no cost legal representation. He will probably end up with a plea deal. Better one covered for only the price of your dues rather than paying full price for your attorney.

Something stinks. How did he speed off if construction brought all traffic to a stop?

I think this is a made-up story to try and sell their services.

Perhaps. I know the lawyers from [pre-paid legal], met them personally, and I do not think they would make up stories to sell services.
I could be wrong......

Has anyone actually used this "insurance?" I'd be extremely leery of this service. This issue is not insurance, its criminal.
EDIT: I'd want to have the best law firm I could afford-aka I'd try to get our Chas vs. a 2nd year wet behind the ears associate. Do they list who they are affiliated with?

That's what they say. At least that's what their commissioned non-attorney sales people say.
What I want to see:
1) References to actual cases where they have defended clients. To date, they haven't provided this.
2) Actual "zero cost" clients who are willing to be references.
[pre-paid legal] cites "privacy" when indicating that they will not provide any case references. That's fine, but cases are matters of public record. And dispositions of those cases should be of great interest to anyone who considers this to a form of legal representation. Sorry, that doesn't pass the "smell" test for me. Neither does allowing them into my CHL class.
And sorry, the math doesn't work out for me. If I'm a defendant in a criminal trial, I want the best attorney I can afford. Assigning me an attorney that gets paid some % of several membership fees - is he or she really going to be motivated to work hard?
Just askin...

They have never had to defend anyone because CHL holders don't get in trouble to need their services.

Have you heard their spiel? They argue just the opposite.

In all seriousness, I WAS a member of [pre-paid legal] for about 10 months. Yes, their sales tactics convinced me to sign up before I even got my CHL. I no longer "use" any of these kinds of services, but IF they provide what they say they will, I can see how it could be benificial to some. I can't really say one way or the other. I just hope I never need any type of defense myself.

I attended an NRA class in San Antonio and they6 brought in this group trying to sell it to the 5 of us there.
It did not pass the smell test for this old NOSE.
I would never allow them in my CHL classes either.. I dont need their money .

That or the teacher in a rage jumped out of the truck, forgot to put it in park, and it rolled forward. He then brandished his weapon and was subsequently arrested....

Sir, you've provided good insite and information on many posts. If you could answer the following it would be appreciated.
Are the lawyers you met from [pre-paid legal] all Board Certified Criminal Defense Lawyers? Do the lawyers you met personally travel
the state of Texas, no matter where a CHL member of [pre-paid legal] was arrested/charged, to provide defense? Or, do they "sub"
out the work to a local lawyer in the county/local where the offense occured?

Disclosure; I am a member.
They are all experienced lawyers and second amendment supporters. I have met the attorneys. In fact, I attended a firearms instructor class they put on last summer.
They are sharp. You can read about some of their cases at their website. Click on education and newsletters.
