Perry Calls For Gun-Toting Freedom In Texas

April 30, 2007 08:31 PM
While people across the country have called for gun control in the wake of Virginia Tech, Gov. Rick Perry called for gun freedom Monday.

Perry met with U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt, who is traveling the country to decide how the government can prepare schools for these types of situations.

Perry said Texas should consider allowing licensed, law-abiding citizens to carry their authorized weapon anywhere in the state.

"Whether it's on a college campus or wherever, and frankly, I think it's time for our citizens to be able to protect themselves," Perry said. "The last time I checked, putting up a sign that says, 'Don't bring your gun in here,' for someone who has ill intent on their mind, they could (not) care less."

I don't agree with some things he has proposed in the past, but there's not the slightest doubt that Gov. Perry has been one of the best friends that Texas gun owners have ever had.

He has never failed to sign a pro gun rights bill. And he has done everything possible to establish reciprocity with as many states as possible.

His position on this issue (getting rid of gun-free zones) shows a degree of common sense and candor that is very rare among politicians these days.

In my mind, his stock just went WAY up.

I opened the video up but basically, it is just Gov. Rick saying exactly what's in the article.
I hope there's a little more on the news tonight and maybe more positive response tomorrow from our legislators.

Is it possible it could happen this session??

Bring it on. Then the next thing to work toward will be making CHL holders a protected class so you couldn't be fired for carrying at work.

(no CHL yet, but making plans)
