Does your mom know you carry?

#1

Post by Haif Hearted »

I don't discuss the fact that I carry with many people, including my own (elderly) mother. She's not all that good at keeping information private.

I went to visit her today, carrying, as per usual, my SP101 owb at 3 o'clock. I went to give her a left side hug, and she put her arms around my waist (unusual for her) and put both hands right on the gun before I could react.

"What have you got on your waist?" she said as I separated from her.

I patted it and said, "Oh, that's that thing."

Well, I guess that was good enough for her, as she was off to the races telling me the latest family gossip.

I may have that conversation with her one of these days, but not today.

My Mom is 93 and still sharp as a tack. She knows I carry and has mentioned it to no one. She knows that it's not their business.

My Momma would be disappointed if I didn't :tiphat:

Yes, she knows and she also knows that there is not need to ask at any given time. My mother-in-law has even caught on to our desire to be circumspect.

My mother, bless her heart, died in 1989. If she's looking, she's probably not surprised.

I wish I hadn't! In spite of me telling her several times no one else is to know she tells people "because she is proud" and asks in public if "I am packing heat". She is not very old, but has no filter. The only reason she knows is because she asked where we were going when we went to spend the day in our class. I wasn't going to lie to her, I have never been good at it. So I was honest. One of the few times I wish I had lied. :???:

I am one of the luckiest guys I know, in that sense. My mother knows I carry, and she carries as well. She hasn't quite gotten to the point of carry all the time everywhere, but she does carry. She always keeps one in her car, and has recently taken to carrying her airweight more often.

My mom knows my brother and I carry, and when she visits she enjoys going to the range although she only shoots the AR because it doesn't 'kick'.

Did I mention she's a California liberal? Oh well, at 75 we ain't gonna change her.

My mother used to worry about me before I got my CHL (still does, just for different reasons now). It seemed like every couple of months, she would ask if I had gotten my license yet.

Then I moved back home to help care for her and Pop. It was painfully obvious to her that I did not carry and her asking turned into her saying, "I wish you would get your license."

After I got my CHL, all of the questions stopped. Occasionally, when I would take her somewhere, I would mention to her that I was carrying. Her reply was, "I always just assume you are." After a few of those, I quit mentioning it.

She has always been my biggest cheerleader. Ya gotta love Mom!

My mother is dead but she knew when I was 18 that I carried a gun in the car just about everywhere I went. All 5 of her offspring are now licensed to carry a firearm. I'm sure she wouldn't have a problem with it.

My mother might suspect, but it is not a topic of conversation between us. Long ago, she forbade any talk about guns between my brother and me in her home. When she was out here in April for my son's wedding, she asked to see my gun collection so I showed her part of it, but she didn't really know what to make of it except that she can't stand guns.

I'm pretty sure that her commie boyfriend saw me unholster my XDm and put it up on the mantle, but I just grinned at him and he looked away. I have no idea if he mentioned it to my mother, nor do I care.

Yep. She wasn't a big fan initially, but has since come around. Mom is one of the few in my firearm circle of trust. I think dad suspects, but we have never discussed the topic. Both parents are liberal Democrats who think I just fell far from the tree.

Absolutely, most everyone in my family does. What better way to start the conversation about when they are getting a chl than to tell them I already have? So far I've also had the conversation with four or five of my friends, one went and got his chl the next week, one wants to but has a bit of a wait, and another I just told is waiting until after the summer. Expanding the number of us who carry is important IMO, and some people just need a little encouragement or at least the knowledge that others feel as they do. Now, people outside my core group of family/friends or someone i know who swings the wrong direction, never. It's none of their business.
