Need some help

Alright guys, I have some questions. I've tried doing a lot of research, but I figured y'all could help me out. I recently got a job where I will have to wear a suit everyday, so I'm looking to change my carry set up. I currently carry a Glock 19 in a Crossbreed Supertuck, but I just purchased a Kimber Custom TLE II. I'm looking at switching to an OWB and shoulder rig. Any suggestions for a good OWB option? However, my main concern is the shoulder rig. I've never owned one, so I'm curious as to how well a shoulder set up will keep a 5" barrel from printing out the back of my jacket. I'm 6'3", 235 pounds, wear a size 52 jacket, and a 35 waist. I'm a pretty big guy but I wanted to see what y'all thought about this set up in a suit for a guy my size.

For the shoulder rig, I'm looking at the Monarch rig by Andrew's Leather. I've seen a lot of good reviews on it, but does anyone have experience with this holster?

I plan to get the Monarch with the knife sheath for the Cold Steel Tanto. I've tried looking at the knife laws, but I'm still unsure on what I can legally carry. Will this knife be legal, how long of a blade can be legally carried, fixed blade restrictions, etc.

Lastly, I have to relocate to St. Louis, MO for about six months for my new job. Missouri recognizes the Texas CHL, but I haven't been able to find if this gun/knife carry will be legal there. They offer a CCW permit that allows for legal concealed carry of a firearm and knife, but I can't find if the Texas CHL also covers carrying the knife.

I know it's a lot of questions, but I always like to do my homework before I make changes. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Do you plan on taking your jacket off during work hours? Both OWB and shoulder rig require a cover garment, like a suit jacket, 100% of the time. If you plan on wearing a jacket all the time, i vote for OWB. I feel the shoulder rig, while concealable, can still be seen if you are not paying attention and making sure the jacket is buttoned.

Look at Galco's King Tuk. It's comfortable. I've worn mine with slacks and dress shirt. If you're worried about the clips being seen, you can get clips that aren't as visible, or you can get the velcro stuff that goes under the belt.

The jacket will stay on the whole time. I was worried about how well it would keep the shoulder rig hidden. It looks like I'll probably end up with an OWB. (That is if I'm permitted to carry at work. As of now, their policy says no )

I will definitely have to get a better belt. The Glock/Supertuck combo holds up on my regular belts, but I don't think the new set up will.

Jackets need to be specially tailored to fully conceal a shoulder holster, so it can hide the mass.

Also, think about carrying a 3-5 lb weight under one arm all day long. That will get heavy and tiresome really fast. I've known people to develop lower back pain when wearing shoulder holsters on a constant, consistent basis.

I'd go with a tuckable, IWB. I'll echo the call for a good gun belt. My experience has been that the belt makes all the difference.

That Andrews Monarch is 2nd to NONE. It will adjust to a fit even you. I like mine Great.
Just cant take your coat off in the presence of others.
Works fine if you a ve a Cecretary in front of you & you have time to put coat on before someone comes in your office.

I've always enjoyed having my IWB set up, but I didn't know if a full size would be very comfortable like that.


I talked to some people yesterday and I was told that Texas passed a law last year that you can carry at your work place regardless if their policy says no. Does anyone know more about that?

Even with a suit the IWB is a great way to go. The tuck type holsters can even be used when it is warmer since you can YMMV tucjk the shirt in.

The Super tuck I use with a Glock and got the Quick clip for a kimber 1911. The QQ works well as it is tuckable (I don't) but it is way easier to "asjust" when life puts you in a restaurant chair that bangs the butt of the gun etc. Depending on how forward or back I can rock the gun when seated, bucket seats, theater and chairs with arms are easier to get comfy.

I have noticed that the gun butt will mark the fabric with an "embossed" pattern where hard chairs press the fabric against the gun. My GLock 27 is a lot easier to carry than my Kimber BTW. The longer the grip, the more it pokes out. Bbl length doesn't ever seem to be a problem with IWB either.

Shoulder holsters also require special concideration around your "hugger" friends. It is way easier to drop a low elbow over a belt holster than it is to cover both armpits in a good clinch


As to the law about employers. Parking lot is OK (Nuke plants, refineries etc might be excluded) but if they have a no gun policy in the building and either have the 30.06 sign or have given you notice in writing or told you.... Then the 30.06 applies. IANAL

Texas is also an AT WILL state. The can fire you for the gun and say it was your attitude etc.

As mentioned above, the Jackass Rig by Galco is made to accomodate full sized guns.

I recently purchased one for a Glock 17, and it hides well under a jacket. No bulges, etc. The gun is carried at a slight grip down/barrel up angle, so it really helps to conceal the longer slide. I give it two thumbs up.

Disclaimer: Shoulder holsters are uncomfortable until you get them adjusted right. It takes some invested time to get it right, but once you do it's great.

I would not carry on the work place that says you can't. It might get you fired for violating company policy - even if you never have an incident involving the pistol. Other employees may feel just as strong about no guns and you never know what they might do to get you in trouble.

Knives over 5 and a half inches are a NO NO

I'm no lawyer check the knife laws out before you carry a Knife I could be wrong
