By TJ Aulds / KHOU.com

Dickinson police were called to a car dealership Tuesday afternoon after one of the salesmen shot himself in the foot.

Police Chief Ron Morales said the sales man was talking with fellow employees at the dealership in the 3300 block of Interstate 45 South with his hands in his pocket when he “somehow just pulled the trigger. The mishap occurred about 1:30 p.m.

Morales said the salesman, who is also a reserve deputy for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, had a pistol in his pocket when it went off. The weapon was a small pistol .380-caliber Kel-Tec, a popular handgun among police officers.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital. The extent of his foot injury was not known Tuesday afternoon. Kel-Tec handguns
Why were the police called, instead of the ambulance? Did he need permission to carry on premises? Or did they think he was a crazy employee about to set it off and didn't know he was a reserve cop?

Obviously good advice......also a pocket holster that covers the trigger guard might be helpful. I have one for my Kel-Tec.

That took some effort. Kel Tecs have long trigger pulls.

I imagine 911 was called. In all shootings the police are dispatched along with medical.

:iagree: And a pretty heavy DAO pull, as well as lengthy. If it was a stock P3AT, I can't imagine how you could "accidentally" pull the trigger unless you were consciously squeezing that lil' sucker.

It must have been a key in his pocket that cause the discharge. Hope he gets out of the hospital soon, we need more reserve cops in Tx.

We can wag our head at this but if the guy has a CHL & sarah finds out about it, wont be good PR for us. Neglegence & accidents are not only dangerous but damaging too.

I am just glad to hear it hit his foot. You know the first thing I think of when I hear accidental shooting from a gun in someones pocket...........
