hand gestures
So this lady at the gas station decided to give me the middle finger because i took her spot at the pump because she started toward the exit and then tries to turn around and cant figure out how to park. When she finally did park it the guy next to me told her to get her head of out her behind. Her son decided to walk up to me wanting to talk to me and i told him his life was in danger if he came any closer. I dont even think he was out of high school yet. Would you call the police on someone like that or just try to leave?I decided to leave as quickly as i could before it really got out of hand.

Re: hand gestures
I would not have told him his life is in danger if he comes any closer. That could easily be taken as a threat. "I WILL defend myself if you come any closer" is perfectly OK. But the other kind of statement is a "this is what I'm going to do TO YOU if you come closer," and I don't think that will fly.

Re: hand gestures
Call the police for a hand gesture? Maybe up in Yankeestan but I thought Texans were made of sterner stuff.
sent to you from my safe space in the hill country
Re: hand gestures
It is, but I don't think threatening defense is on quite the same level as threatening someone's life.alvins wrote:How is saying I will defend myself not a threat tho?
And if you really told the young man that his life would be in danger if he came any closer, he could have called the police and they might have arrested you.

Oh, and I was really hoping this thread was going to be about hand gestures for signalling turns or stopping if your turn signals were not functioning.

Raised middle finger - that's on the ignore list. Kid wallking toward me that is associated with finger woman - a stern "GO AWAY" warning issued while my right hand is on my weapon. My job is to de-escalate the situation.

Re: hand gestures
He never said in what way his life was in danger if he came closer. That could have meant several different things.

It's a shame non-violent dispute resolution is not given the coverage it deserves in some CHL classes.
