I think DPS is supposed to mail you a notice, but you can take the class any time within 6 months of expiration, even if you haven't received the notification.

As for renewals being separate from new, I've done classes with both. We usually cover all the stuff that is common to both groups, then go to the range. After that, we send the new guys to lunch while we finish up and test the renewals. I've also done classes that were just renewals. It's pretty much up to the instructor you choose.

DPS sends you a renewal notice 6 months before your expriation date. But, mark your calendar, and if you dont have it in the mail 6 months before, then you can start the renewal process anyway.

Renewal classes can be separate from full classes, but most instructors I know combine them.

I'm up for renewal in early Sept and still haven't recieved a notice fcrom DPS. :confused5

I've scheduled my class. Should I just renew or do I have to notify DPS that I have yet to receive my notice before send my renewal in?

You can do the renewal online within 6 months before your expiration. Not receiving the notice means nothing. Only means that the website will now allow you to renew (if you tried before 6 months the website will not let you do it).

Do it online, select the option to use what Photo you want (DL or current CHL) and then mail in your CHL-100.
