Expired Liscense, Looking to Renew. (Semi-Complicated Case)

Good Morning, I have an odd case for you guys and I am looking for some info, advice and would like to pick your brains a bit.

I have a Texas CHL which expired back in 2008.
I have a currently valid Texas Drivers License (Although I am living out of state, I maintain Texas as my residency)
I am a military spouse (dependent)

Basically my wife and I were transferred to Alaska while my CHL was still valid. In Alaska you do not need a CHL to carry so I let the license lapse.
We also claimed Alaska Residency because we planned on staying there before the economy went flat.

When we moved back down here to the lower 48, we made a family decision that we would not return to Alaska to live and changed our residency back to Texas.

So basically I have two questions:

#1: Can I just renew my old expired license since I am a military dependant living out of state?
#2: Which address do I put on my CHL license? My 'permanent' address in Texas which is on my TXDL, or my 'current' residence out of state? (Both are valid)

1. Since your license is expired by more than one year, you will have to take the full 10 hour course.
2. I would think you could probably use either address, since Texas will issue a non-resident license, but the Alaska address would necessitate a change of address once you relocate back to Texas. That will result in a $25 fee. It may not matter, depending on how long it will be before you relocate to Texas, since
3. The CHL class will have to be taken in Texas.

Welcome to the forum.

Since your CHL is over 1 year expired, you will have to take the full course again. If your true permanent residence is Texas, then you will use that on your CHL. It will need to match the address on your Texas drivers license.

It's not complicated at all. You can't renew a CHL that's expired more than a year.

You can do a new application with your current address or your permanent address if you can get mail there. The class is the same. The fee is the same. There's a small difference in documents required, but the main difference between a resident and nonresident Texas CHL is the address they will print on your license.

Your physical location is currently AK, but you have a TX DL and are registered to vote in TX?
You do not receive money from the Permanent Fund?

When do you expect to return to TX and reestablish physical residency?

If it's going to be a while before you come back here (trying not to be too nosy here) why not just change your DL and get an AK carry license? It's $95 and it's recognized in TX. You can get your TX license redone (from scratch, as others have noted) when you come back on a permanent basis.

If you ar already back living in TX, you just need to follow the process for getting a new (first time) license.
