Thoughts on Tim Schmidt / U.S. Concealed Carry?

He comes across as a bit of a huckster, but also provides some good info.
I find his "scare tactic" promotion of Defense Shield to be distasteful, which makes me suspicious if it's too good to be true.

I drooped his association membership after a bad experience with the forum mods. The PM was hate filled and racist.
Nothing on their paid forum is better than what you find here. As matter of fact, here it is 10X better community.

He's a scammer preying on the fears of new CHL's. He even advertises in the TSRA/NRA mags! He offers a free information sheet to harvest your email address and then hammers you with offers.
When he first started with the Concealed Carry Magazine it was a good publication and informative. I guess it was not making him enough money and he decided to learn/use marketing scams to pad his bank account.

...seemed to me to be a money making enterprise more than a public service...I didn't see the value...that was a coupla years ago...

Kind of what I figured.
Will be opting-out of the e-mails but I suspect they'll keep coming.

I joined USCCA after I started carrying. Had the membership for a couple of years, then dropped it when I found I could get more (and better) information from other sources without the cost. I also got tired of the constant e-mails and didn't find the magazine all that informative.

I got tired of the constant "E"mails too. I kept asking him to stop sending them, Finally it stopped.

I joined a couple months ago, and just cancelled earlier this week. I also got shotgunned with ads to my email account, and didn't see any benefit from being a member, except access to a few articles on guns and carrying. I'm now waiting to see how good his "bulletproof guarantee" is...
I was also confused when I joined that included in the membership fee, I was charged a printing cost from "Action Printing" in Lubbock...?
There was nothing to print or ship to me...
Also, his "Tactical Tim" videos on YouTube get ripped a lot for being inaccurate, uninformative and silly. He's an obvious Glock lover, and in his review of my choice, the XD45 compact, he doesn't even mention the two seperate indicators that show it's cocked and loaded (chambered round). He also adamant that it's a double action gun (and rips it for having a grip safety), when it's a single action. What, you didn't research it at all?
Pretty useful information if you're thinking of buying a gun.

I'm still a member and my wife kids me about the white plain covered magazine being mistaken by the postman as porn. I did opt out of his email campaign and have not had any emails since. To be fair he is running a business and has to be pushy to make money.
The magazine is a good read, especially now that he has dropped the paid advertising. Lots of good information.

I thought all porn came in plain brown wrappers. Or black plastic. So I've heard.

I've posted about him before, and I'll say it again: The material he provides to his subscribers is decent, but nothing that can't be acquired freely and without the constant email spam. I also
loathe his long email styles that are best described as a reading like multicolored informercial ("
I'm going to solve all your concealed carry problems,
BUT WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PERSON....
blah blah...
BUT LET ME TELL YOU WHAT ELSE I CAN OFFER....
blah blah...
DON'T BE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE...
blah blah....(4 screens later)...
AND IF YOU JOIN IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS...
blah blah"). There. That should make my point.
BTW: Tim does what he does to make money. I don't begrudge his successes at all, and I'll admit to being jealous of having a job that is best described as "shoot guns and talk about them all day"
. He's just a passionate shooter who tends to sell a little too hard. That being said, his YouTube video channel/website is decent
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheTacticalTim" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
If you want to read an interview where Tim talks quite passionately about making money via online membership forums, here you go:

Guns and concealed carry are more offensive than porn to many.

I am in a predicting mood today.......
I predict someone notifies "Tim" of this thread and he comes and registers to post a rebuttal to what he will consider to be people bashing him.
What will be funny is when he post links to his stuff in his message or signature line of his 1st post and gets banned from here.

Once I recieved my CHL, I posted a question on this board similar to yours. I essentially got the same replies as posted here, and thus prevented me from signing up for his magazine. I was forewarned that I would eternally be subjected to his emails, which has turned out to be true.
I still read his emails occasionally, but don't subscribe to his magazine. I think I've learned from other sources as much as I could have learned from his articles. There are lots of forums, and lots of web sites that offer good information - including this forum of course. I'm glad I was offered good advise and did not sign up for his service. So, just consider what you want/need to learn about concealed carry, and then consider your sources. Good Luck!
