This happened to me last school year as I was driving my daughter to school.

I was leaving the neighborhood and the street I was on dead-ended onto a two-lane roadway. I stopped at the stop sign and noticed a work truck driving towards me from the right. The left turn signal was on, indicated that it would be turning on the street I was on.

I began my right turn as the truck began his left turn. He cut the corner, crossing into my path. It was obvious that if I did not stop I would hit him, so I had to brake hard. When I did I spilled my coffee on my legs.

So I sat there with my car not moving while I reached for a towel and said, "ouch that coffee is hot". As I cleaned up I noticed a vehicle next to me. It was the same truck. He had driven past, then backed up to me.

He had his window down and was looking right at me. I rolled mine down, and he said, "do you have a *expletive* problem?" I replied that I spilled my coffee, and he placed his truck in park and got out.

He said something about, "what do I wanna do about it?"

There it is, what do you do?

I'll tell ya what I did later.

Pretty much agree with TM. You didn't indicate if the two-lane was visible and clear to complete the turn. If so, just say, "Have a nice day," and drive away. With my daughter there in the vehicle, my first concern after hearing the, "Do you have a *expletive* problem?" would be simply to remove myself from the location. No longer interested in anything the other driver has to say.

Drive away, explain to daughter there are people in this world that are not as calm as her father, (details of this depends on daughters age), drop daughter off at school, go home, change pants and start the day over again. All of this assumes the other driver did not follow you.

Ditto on the "drive off" responses above with one addition. My phone as a video recording function that I activate anytime something out of the ordinary happens like this scenario or traffic stops. I think it helps me keep my cool because I know anything I say or do will be used to help me in court I started this practice after meeting some of Travis county's finest that could barely walk because of the MASSIVE chips on their shoulders...

This guy was probably in his late 40's, early 50's. Our subdivision was still being built out, and there were MANY work trucks around. I didn't drive around looking for his truck, figuring that might look like I was looking to engage the guy once my daughter was gone.

I will admit, my inner devil wanted to initially just OC the guy and give him a little insight into making proper left turns and the dangers of confronting someone who might OC you.

Perchance, were the vehicle windows down, so that he might have heard some of your expression of discomfort, and mistaken it for words directed at him?

Simple, i would have rolled the window down. and with a business card in hand said, "Good Morning! I'm Larry here is my card. I teach concealed handgun carry." Then drove off.

Yes we have a lot more than 8 readers that are young & learning what they should do by reading what we older ones did & would do.

I too carry a towel in my truck like you. It is between the seats & what I use to cover my lock box that is bolted to the floor between the seats, so I would have been doing the very same thing you were when he returned.
My first view & like you I would have driven off wiping up the mess in my lap & telling the grandchild, in my case, to get in the floor until I knew he was not following again.

with the kid in the car, my response is to leave.
w/o the kid in the car, the least he would have gotten was a middle finger. if the guy would have tried to start something whilst I cleaned myself (the coffee, not something else!), I may have given him a healthy dose of pepper spray, depending of course on who is reading this (I'm not guilty!!!), and of course on the totality of the circumstances, including, but not limited to whether I've been able to drink any of the said coffee and/or breakfast (my blood sugar gets low, I get pissy).
